You can! He's not actually made of fire or anything of the like. It is explicitly canon that while their bodies gaseous in nature, they are held together by EM fields which essentially makes them about as solid to the touch as any other species. For all intents an purposes the gas within their bodies act like blood. So if they were to be injured it would begin flowing out through the hole.
