Just my urge to sketch, sorry about the lines
Farahme descending down a stairway... what will he find? One of my D&D friends has left us to work on the particle accelerator in Switzerland, so his character and another friend's have left the party, I managed to convince her to make a kittie as well for her next. I might draw her with Farahme if I feel like it

Pff. Pretty boy with his pretty swords. They are no match for... THE AXIS OF KINDA-EVIL, SUPER VILLAINS!©
Also, not to be technical, but to skirmish with them implies ballistics or bows and arrows or guns or something. I believe the term which you are looking for is "Engage" them, which would only be if he were on the attack. Otherwise, it would be more that he "Self-defensed" them. Then again, some people think I think to much, but whatever. In fact, most swords play mechanics revolve around some sort of throwing motion where the sword is still gripped in the hand. So technically, he could not be skirmishing as he was failing to throw his weapon on purpose, whereas should he slip up and actually hit them, he would in fact be skirmishing.
Now to go more in depth with the analysis, examine the word skirmish, which could also be taken to mean a brief fight. Should he engage in such a thing, it would most likely be with a small monster, or something very easily taken down. Thus, there would be little reason to mention him even having swords or any need for it. So while I see what you mean, I merely would like to point out that the word is hardly useful here.
Finally, as I've said, the correct terms are to "engage" or "use in self defense," neither of which is known completely here. Is he traversing the cave to explore, or to rob and steal? Is there something down here requiring said sword that he wishes to slay? Either way, I still strongly believe that skirmish is the wrong word, but I shall spare you said lecture.

^^; just I was surprised they made a "cyborg" race in a fantasy setting, just that this was the first time I've seen it "offical" in the rule set, now the challenging aspect is that the race doesn't "equip" armor, it has to turn it into components. They don't sleep, breathe, eat, age... and outright "death" isn't a easy task in 4.0.
3.5 has catfolk? My friends and are playing 2. Classic classic (I'm a kender thief... pardon, handler). I had no idea, but I love it!
Will probably never get em to play 3.5. In addition to having to get all the books they're so old-school. THAC0 for the win. ( for those who don't know. That's -To Hit Armor Class Zero-) Admittedly, now that I'm in university, the concept is far easier than when I was a kid in high-school :)
But I'd so loooove to play something of the sort. I miss my Vah shir (catperson) Bard from Everquest, even if I don't miss the game :)
