There is a certain trand in to human NPC's TF in S/M-US/UM.
Basically every male characters is part of Rockruff evoulutinary family, or Guzma could be a Golisopod and Gladion any "edgyfurry" pokemon.
Don't get me wrong, the rockruffs are great but... here me out. Gladion as Prinplup....
This need some explaining.
Prinplup is a 1° evolution of a starter, his "teen" fase; also according to dex entry, tend to isolate themself.
Prinplup also... doesn't fit in to Alolan aestetic and that works with Gladion
