And it's FINALLY TIME! The first new page since March 3, 2015. Frakking hell it's been a long wait. Well... for some of you. For most of you, I imagine this is just the tail end of an onslaught of submission notifications.
Anyway, yeah, holy shit, it's time - new art style, new quality, new excitement... eeeeeeee!
Now - more than anything, what bears emphasizing here is that I've completely altered the way I do these pages. First, there's no more sketching on paper and scanning - this baby is 100% digital. Secondly, I've changed how I color and line the pages. Previously, I did a sketch, then meticulously linearted, then colored, then shaded.
The most dull, gruelling and drawn out stage of that process was the lineart, because it looked like crap if I didn't put a lot of effort in. Sketches tend to have a lot of depth and character... to mimic that with clean lines, you need smooth lines and varying line width, which takes time to do well. If you just quickly trace the sketch with a crisp black line, it'll look flat. Now, I retain the sketch, and supplement with simple lineart to create something that has characteristics of both. It's not super clean, but it looks decent and it's FAST.
Before, an average comic page took me a solid week to complete. Page 69, which is around the corner, took me an afternoon. This cover took me an hour and a half from start to finish. This means I can deliver on the content without driving myself to the edge. and that means we can sustain this bad boy for a good while!
