Since I am a biology major with a fetish for botany, I'll yak your ear off about plants at times. This is one of my passionflowers (passiflora caerulea) in bloom. Pretty, isn't it. It has a really unique scent; my manperson said that it smells like candy, hoho.
The flower is also steeped in Christian symbolism (UGH, but still interesting facts, eh. No offense, I am an agnostic). The ten petals represent ten apostles, minus Peter the Denier and Judas the Traitor. The three stigmas at the very top of the flower represent the three nails used to crucify Jesus Christ, and the five anthers below them are the five wounds on his body. The corona filaments (the purple "spike collar" above the petals) represents the crown of thorns. There's also a part that you can't see in this photo that represents the chalice of the last supper.
As I said... interesting flower with interesting symbolism. And it's pretty and smells like candy! Wait... does Jesus smell like candy?
