There's this controversy going around about the "relationship" that Bert & Ernie of "Seseme Street" have. What it ultimately boils down to is this (Officially speaking): If you think B&E are gay, that's fine, if you think they're just "really good friends" (ie: st8), that's fine too.

Geez,I remember watching Seseme Street as a child way back in the early 70s,never thought Bert and Earie were gay,but I did assume they were like the "Odd Couple" Felix and Oscar. Unlike Bert and Ernie,Felix and Oscar were both divorced men kicked out of their places by their wives and share a apartment together as friends.
Unknown if Bert and Ernie were married to wives,kicked and divorced,but the comedy jokes of them being gay goes on.
