Yup, poetry is hard for me to comment on, too... But, I do want to say that I liked "My gift smiled at me." Made me smile a little, too. ^^
Oh, and for something as short as poetry, I'd recommend highlighting the whole thing, copying, then pasting into Notepad, and re-saving it as a new .txt file. That's all assuming you're using Windows, of course. Notepad does a good job of stripping out random characters or showing you where they are to fix them.
