This weekend is a great train show at the trainyard Heddernheim of the U-Bahn Frankfurt to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the U-Bahn.

Some of those old Cars still are in use in West germany. And I seen them already in Mühlheim and Dortmund.
Duisburg as Example ONLY uses Trams from the early 70´s. They just upgrade the Technology inside, but most of it is still the same, just the Sensors and safety systems were upgraded.

No, they are still everyday in use for public transportation, the reason is, Duisburg can´t afford new Trams. And another reason is, they drive trough Germans dangerousest Area. Duisburg Marxloh. The Crime Rate there is the highest in Germany and every few minutes you see Police or Ambulance Cars.
Düsseldorf and Dortmund by the way also uses old Trains from the early 70´s or 80´s i guess? They look pretty old...
