Do we know it's male in the game? It's never referred to with a particular pronoun and its voice sounds way more female.

Well true, I guess without any real clear feminine reference its hard to tell.

The character's dialogue {especially referring to the player as "child", which is usually something older female characters say} and female voice make me believe the character's female--it becomes a lot more plausible too when you realize a number of deer species have antlered females.
