Well... I want to share some information about my setting. I'll talk briefly about
the history of the world and what the name "Doublertat" means.
Now about each epoch in seriatim.
In the beginning, there were three sentient races: teshimons, nemurs, and margins. Teshimon is the most widely spread race on Moir-ke, followed by a less common and tall folk of nemur, active predominantly at night. Both teshimons and nemurs live teamwise. Same cannot be said about margins, though: marine species, they inhabit distant from the mainland archipelagos and dwell in small settlements.
The planet was largely developed far before the reigning of Falsegods. Rumor has it that, back then, harmony ruled in the world. Some claim that era to be utopian. But that was so far back in time no one can even tell now whether the history is genuine or counterfeited.
Once this world was discovered by the FalseGods, which gave the countdown to a new era. They made it obvious for the teshimons about the Universe's nature of things, shared with them their technologies. Teshimons, known for being witty, rapidly made sense of the brand new type of resource and implemented it into manufacture. Naturally, the newcomers were not altruists. Gods taxed in different ways when what they had brought was being utilized. Little by little all branches of power fell into Gods' hands. Meanwhile, the planet itself was under the watchful eye of their messengers. Although the rule in many ways cutthroat, the population's technological growth skyrocketed thanks to all the beneficial knowledge.
Teshimons did not know — until recently — of these Gods to be nothing but powerful beings, having visited in such a manner dozens of solar systems before. Many places cleansed of the natives (because of them being 'unwanted in here'), emptied worlds soon became ideal for the invaders to prosper on.
Perhaps they are to be called Gods. They were who created akspers and many other creatures. They were also able to establish portals to different planets with the help of vessenwers and, again, necessary technology.
And now about the technology itself. It exists in the form of crystalized batteries. Each such ingrowth develops inside the chest of a 'God' (it being the source of their vigor). The crystal inspissates energy from a sightless matter called Efren (the mineral itself is called efrit). Nevertheless, not all can interact with it. As a result, most are not aware of its presence.
Efrit crystals were supplied in superfluous amounts by Gods from their homeworld. You cannot help admiring teshimons' novelties based on crystals. Transport, powered by efren thrust, electrical power supply to lots of houses, and much of other stuff up to weaponry. Eventually, teshimons, them being counted on for their immesurable ingenuity by Gods, received a special order. To engineer a superior version of a portal. Had they not improved them, the state of the portals would remain the same, making them unable to cover any farther-located solar systems. Gods could not wait any longer. Ever so growing was their will to finish the construction as soon as possible. Ever so dangerously low was hanging down Damocles' sword. The tyranny knew no boundaries.
That is when it had finally ended. Long were covert studies being made by specialists in Gods' nature and their technologies, long were they feeling at unease, until they have found out of the apocalypse to rain down. All of this was an enormous bait, and with the world lost its value — Gods will annihilate all on their path, adjusting dead soil for their purposes. Just as they always did with everyone before Moir-ke. After that, with the help of the new portal, they will make use of that back door to travel to other corners of the universe.
All beliefs have snapped in half at long last. Teshimons, realizing not sugar-coated true reality, have lost all faith in these savage deceitful beasts.
The clash was imminent. Gods no more, they have been called Falsegods since. There were some, however, who had been in bad blood with this policy. They assisted teshimons by stirring up riots in the homeworld of the invaders. It became known afterward that scientists who had previously been working for Gods had started running secret experiments later to have invented several means of fighting against the usurpers. One of the inventions suggested One of the inventions involved the introduction of efrit into the circulation of teshimon, which allows them to also interact with efren.
With the help of such gimmicks, rogue technologies, camaraderie from saboteur Falsegods and imperfections of existing portals, the world was taken back by the natives. At a price of nearly total decimation.
Thus second era met its demise.
Now, in the postwar epoch, Moir-ke is the world of many abolished settlements. Cities, manufacturing, infrastructure — hostilities have severely damaged the planet's vitals. Nature also got hurt by sundry hazardous weaponry. Population migrated to the biggest cities, where (and only where) all the necessary infrastructure and power supply was restored. Others live either as nomads or settled down where the ruins stand. The planet is brimming with lifeless wastelands. It seems empty, yet it is still kicking. Nevertheless, this is not so critical for the population, since many teshimon have been wandering of their own free will since ancient times.
Those corporations which sailed through mostly intact continued their manufacture with time. A plenty of technologies is running on efrit so far, like transport driving on smooth city roads, as well as cross over wastelands, levitating two to three meters above the ground level due to efren thrust. Transport exists in many forms. Various gravicycles are the most widely spread. The thing is, not everyone can afford a nomadic trailer. With that in mind, teshimons use mounts to traverse.
Along with crystals, akspers, wessenwerns, and different other beasts remained on the planet. Akspers are a real blight. If axpers are petty rogues that gather in wild groups, then their mutated versions and wessenverns pose a huge threat to settlements. Organizations such as A-kuma go out of their way to exterminate all alien races indiscriminately and oppose a government that they believe is inactive, allowing the legacy of the Falsegods to harm the planet further.
Although with the war ended, tension is still in the air. As time passed by, teshimons have established commerce with the otherworldly allies. As a rule, the world consumes the efreet necessary for production and creates a reserve army that is sensitive to the ephren of fighters. A reserve army is needed to protect Moir-ke in the event of a repeat of the war. One of such training facilities happened to be the research laboratory of Falsegods and their technologies alike. Most of the place is closed off for unauthorized personnel. That facility is called Doublertat...
