And Sega couldn't recover after the cluster fuck of the Saturn and 32x in the same generation... Dreamcast was good, but not good enough to carry them to the 7th gen.
Nintendo, on the other hand, has survived quite well up to the 8th generation (or 8.5 because Switch, ps4 pro and xbone s) with a few flops (Virtual Boy, Wii U, N64 controller) and some successes(Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Wii, Gamecube, N64, NES, SNES, Game Boy (color, advance, etc...) DS, Switch, Crossplay)...ok a METRIC FUCKING ASSTON of successes, but still... they're alive and well. With Kanto remakes coming out in time for the holidays, the PS4 might not be so far up soon...

Well, have you tried to watch a DVD or Blu-Ray on a bumpy car ride? Due to the Switch's home/portable form factor, discs could easily get scratched(like the screen SHOTS FIRED) while carrying, ergo carts make for a better decision. Also, carts are easier to keep in small areas than discs. This also explains (physical) media playback on the Switch. Digital, IDK, WHY IS THERE NO NETFLIX/CRUNCHYROLL/VUDU?????????????? Yet official disc playback on Wii and WiiU is unexplained yet can be homebrewed in.
True. But isn't that what the 3DS is for. Portable gaming. To me, the Switch is a home console that yes is still portable. Nintendo should have at least implemented a DVD player into the charging base. I mean they did it with the Panasonic Q (Gamecube in Japan) but never released it in the USA.
I... can't justify the lack of a disc drive in the base...other than possibly allowing for more USB ports or "easier" for 3rd parties (yet the Switch's power regulation is off the balls horrible.......... WHY NOT JUST USE USB-C POWER STANDARDS?????????????????)... IDK
Maybe they plan on killing the 3ds and merging their portable and home lines? IDK, I don't work for Nintendo
