Or saber-tooth tiger, whatever you want to call her. No references used, surprise surprise. I was having hard time finding photos of smilodons. :-b
I was watching a documentary on dire wolves and suddenly got an inspiration to draw a smilodon. Mostly it was just to see if I could, without references and stuff. Sorry about the faintness of the drawing, no idea what happened there. I'm pretty pleased with the results, although no references is never as good as with references. *sigh* Well, Charha did say she wanted to see me draw more big cats... ^_^

Beautiful. I think you have done a great job, even without reference. The eyes... well, the eye... looks almost alive.
Sapelihammaskissa se kait suomeksi on. Smilodon kuulostaa vähän latinalta. Hieno esihistoriallinen kissaeläin kuitenkin... jos en nyt ihan väärin muista niin tämäkin peto katosi jääkauden jälkeen. Ja ymmärtääkseni oli puhtaasti amerikkalainen eläin... en nyt mene takuuseen. Mutta kuitenkin.

Sapelihammaskissa on tosiaan suomennos, mutta taitaa olla samanlainen yleisnimi kuin 'saber tooth cat'. Niita on ainakin kolme ala lajia. En ole varma, oliko kyseinen megapeto ainoastaan Amerikassa, mutta sielta se ainakin katosi viimeisena.
