**Giggles!**
Once again, thanks for Being patient and so supportive of me. Oh, yes ... and I'm still in the process of posting stuff here, whether it be my work or commissioned works ...
If you are my age (or older), you might have watched the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon back in the early eighties, which not just chronicled the adventures of six teenagers from our world and dropped into the Realm, but often deal with the likes of Venger, one of the coolest characters next to Darth Vader, and Tiamat the Dragon! Under the guidance of the Dungeon Master, an extremely wise and often confusing fellow, they explored the world, often aiding all sorts of fantastic people, including Uni the Unicorn, who also travels with them.
For me, it was a time of my youth that was a blast. Saturday Morning cartoons and often a bowl of Captain Crunch (either original flavor or peanut butter!) and then later in the morning, more often than naught just before noon, I would treat myself with a hot bowl of boiled peanuts and a Coke. Usually, after a few hours of drawing and coloring with pen, ink pens, and colored pencils, I would have my own adventures ready for the two groups of players I often ran with: either the East Beachers or the Nerd Club (which was the gang who often sought each other out during lunch in high school.) Often, I ran my own characters like Princess Loonia Infinity, Myrus Mysticstone, or even a character sort of like Israfel Vincent (one time at the insistence of doing a game like the cartoon, but with characters like ourselves ... sort of like what we did for Villains and Vigilantes.) Originally, I was going to run a bard, but the Dungeon Master suggested a magic user (probably because we were really top-heavy again with fighters ... my best friend was running a cleric like she always did, so we at least had that covered.) Honestly, I had almost forgotten that game if not for my Big Sister who mailed me a box of stuff she found at Pop's place. I was seriously surprised since Mom hated Dungeons and Dragons ... "It's too violent!" she often lamented, but Pop often watched the group when we gamed at my place. He said before he passed on that he always liked the game, telling me that Mom should have been proud the way I often gamed, being the one who often suggested defeating the bad guys and not killing, also honoring my word ... you know, stuff like that. I laughed and told him that it was playing the alignment (lawful good), but he just smiled.
While I loved all the characters within the cartoon, my special favorite would be Sheila, mainly because she's a redhead and I have quite the fondness for her. Granted she had one of the Items of Power that was defensive, something I really appreciated back then since I was not one who liked blood and gore. But she also had a few moments that I could relate to: using your brain for something other than stuffing your skull. Yes, yes ... she was often the token "Damsel in Distress", but often I was too ... being a magic user often meant that I had to be extra careful and smarter than my group-mates, often also being the one to load up the bodies of the group and hauling them back to town for healing, especially when we were low level characters. :)
While taking a week down in the middle of December, a fantastic and rare treat for me, I got the unexpected pleasure to game as Israfel Vincent, the Impossible Girl, in one of the RP sessions on the List (f-list.net) with a friend who treated me with playing Sheila and we went through The Village of Hommlet ... and while I was also asked to run The Mighty Caitlynn, the barbarian, it was more just the two other characters. It was very fun and a flashback for days of my youth to where I often ran as both Player (often beleaguered leader just like the Bearded Lantern) and Dungeon Master. We did rather well, though, a lot of it had to do with Israfel's "Bag of Healing" and Shelia's Staff of Healing (which we both agreed for this adventure that Sheila or Israfel could use.)
I ended up talking to
kurama-chan about the adventure and she suggested a commission, probably already having a rather cute way for me to further remember the experience. In this piece, Sheila, loving the pair of cat-ears that Israfel had, offered to loan out her Cloak of Invisibility for giggles. A charmingly cute and fun idea!
Once again, a special Thank you! to
kurama-chan, my good friend, for this wonderful piece of work!
