Finally saw Venom and I liked it, a lot.
It may come as no surprise that I love Venom so I might have had a biased edge when it came to this movie but I do have my gripes with it that I'll list off.
First the stuff I liked: Venom himself looked amazing and the character was funny, cool, scary and very entertaining, the action was pretty good, something to note is that this very much has first movie syndrome, where things will kind of be on a smaller scale to make room for the big stuff in sequels like old Woody boy in the credits (we'll get to that), some may find that disappointing but there's going to be a sequel, Venom is too popular of a character for that to not be a reality, that's like if Deadpool failed and the only thing to come out of that was the first movie and nothing else. Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, at first I was a little skeptical about the choice to cast him and I found him okay, the thing with Eddie is that he is a character that has been through so much in the comics and when it comes to Venom he's the one thing that tends to get sidelined because we all want to see the goo monster rather than Buff McBro Face but I guess I can give credit to the film for establishing him as the dominant one rather than the Symbiote.
The comedy was pretty funny, some pretty good jokes here and there, can't spoil that because they're jokes and not having that first time with a joke takes away what makes it funny, fine comedy for a superhero movie, very dark though.
OKAY HUGE FUCKING SPOILER FOR VENOM STOP READING HERE, YOU HAD YOUR WARNING:
So She-Venom makes an appearance and vores some dude's skull AND IT WAS FUCKING AMAZING, She-Venom is one of those things that should of been really popular but it just came and went and was forgotten about but hopefully now she comes back in some way, she was really cool for her short appearance and she looked so hot like her comic cover: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_.....ideofvenom.png
END OF SPOILER:
Overall just very entertaining, can't say much about it, go see it.
Which segways beautifully into the negative.
Now some may argue if you can't say why a film was good to you than that makes it a bad film and Venom has gotten some bad reviews, I haven't seen any yet, again trying to steer clear from spoilers and all but one that I did see was from the Youtuber "I Hate Everything" and the way he described and analyzed the movie made him sound like such an anal douche bag, if you're one who criticizes films to the point where the film making is a con then you're an elitist prick that nothing will satisfy you and that's fine but don't act like you're on some high horse because you saw a comic book movie in 2018 and didn't like it. Newsflash, not every thing can be an artsy fartsy low budget movie where things are minimalistic because there's a message to be deciphered. Just like with art there is always gonna be stuff of a lesser echelon that can still be enjoyed in it's own way and by millions of others as well.
With that aside let's talk about the love interest, lame and unnecessary, she should of been written out of the film in the beginning so we could focus on other things, but I guess if she wasn't in the movie we wouldn't have gotten that great cameo.
The villian was.... interesting. Not Riot, Riot is lame as fuck and so are the other Life Foundation symbiotes, but Carlton Drake was interesting to a certain extent, he was fine in the beginning but then got really lame, it's really hard to fault the movie for such a bad villian when the much more successful MCU has had a villian problem since 2008, disappointing but hey maybe next time. Also something I want to highlight, in the beginning Drake is hosting a field trip with some school kids and one of the kids raises her hand to ask a question but she gets silenced by the other kids but Drake interrupts and says something about how those that get silenced are usually the ones to change the future but then he never answers the little girls question, that can either be seen as an inconsistency or brilliant foresight into this guy's psyche, that he sees himself as more important than those around him, it's funny regardless.
This movie also moves at a pretty fast pace, things just keep going and never really have time to slow down and assess what's going on, I don't mind it too much because it's only trying to get to the sequel, on the other hand it's kind of a bad sign that you just want to rush your characters out the door just so we can get to the good stuff in another film. Also this movie should of been rated R, like studios need to cut the bullshit already, we live in a post Deadpool/Logan world now where we can have comic book movies be rated R, good and profitable, like if Venom was played up as a monster that rips people apart and devours them then that could of had such a good hook in the films favor, but with this PG-13 rating they might have shot themselves in the foot already because the next movie HAS to be rated R for the character they wanna push.
With the review out of the way let's talk about the art piece, all I gotta say is Photoshop can turn anyone into Picasso, it's so fucking easy but not bad for a second attempt.
