its time for a story
a long time ago when snacks journal just started there were divisive design choices that had to be made
most notably the designs of our two main characters Snack and Talia and thats what I want to share with you now
when snacks journal was first concieved Snack was, well a bat, the reason was simple, bats are among my most favourite of all animals in particular giant golden crowned flying foxes
however back then my skill as an artist was not very efficient and Snacks' design became difficult to replicate over and over in particular the fluffyness i wanted in the design was troubling me and so the decision was made to change it to something more managable and easier and thats how snack was changed to a mouse
in truth Ive never felt passionate about Snacks' design, it was created out of necessity and lack of skill rather than what I wanted
::TLTR::
well now I want to rectify this and now that I have improved my style and workflow and feel confident enough to do this I am making the decision to change Snacks' design from what you see on the left to the one on the right

I approve of the change and think you're headed in a good direction. It'll definitely be fun to see some sort of magical mishap or even a science blip to explain the change canonically, depending on how creative you feel!
I found that Snack had a lot of similarities with Pocket, which you hinted to once with your picture with the two swapping outfits! Chip himself used to look quite similar to Demander11's TJ - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13210314/ which I was worried about (Though I think TJ's coat was a pinch creamier and he also seems younger to me :P)
I have a Gerbil that can sometimes look similar to Pocket too (admittedly, this one is a pinch more anime than most! - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/27048145/ )
