The Battle of The Medallion: The Untold Stories
The dark background of an unfortunate wolf...
This is a story I started writing a while back. It is supposed to be the prequel to another story I got the idea of a while back.
This story is about a wolf named Starlight, who loses everything and turns evil. It was a work in progress, but I thought I'd post it.
If anyone is interested in seeing more, just let me know! Maybe I'll continue it

There it was… The one thing they’d always feared. And it had happened, to her.
She lay there, in the middle of the night, holding her new born against her body to shield it from the cold. She lifted her paw, and smiled as the pup… No. Her pup, her baby boy, looked her in the eyes, and smiled. His deep purple eyes stared into hers, and she felt a surge of love towards her pup, so strong that she felt she would do anything to keep him safe. She would fight off anyone who tried to kill her perfect child.
The chill of the night sent shivers through her grey fur, and she held her baby closer, wishing she could stay like this forever.
Then, she felt a snout bump against hers, and when she looked up, she met her lover’s eyes. He was a black wolf, just like their son, and when he spoke, his deep voice seemed to sooth her as it always did, “He’s beautiful… Just like you, Thedra.”
Thedra chuckled, and when her lover lay down next to her, she nuzzled his muzzle lovingly. Then they heard a squeak, and they both turned to look at their son. Thedra released their pup, and watched as he tentatively tested a paw on the ground, as if he thought he might get hurt. Then he became more confident, taking a few steps forward, trying to keep his balance.
The short and cool grass swayed gently in front of them, while the moon shone down into the tiny clearing within the forest. Here in this clearing was where the trees had cleared, the branches gone with a perfect view of the night sky above. Thedra came here often to relax, and she knew this was where he should be raised.
Their son lifted his eyes to the sky, and had forgotten to look in front of him. He yelped in surprise as a small twig tripped him, causing him to face plant onto the soft ground. Her lover let out a snort of amusement and watched as their pup got back up, and bit down on the small twig, half the size of him. Growling, the pup shook the stick, and then threw it a few feet away. Then he raised his head, looking very satisfied, and returned to his mother.
Thedra loved him more every second. She could almost cry in happiness. She’d dreamt of this day, where her first litter would be born. Even though she only had one pup, that was enough for her. The only problem was… His eyes… Purple…
She had been so lost in her thoughts she hadn’t heard what her lover had said. “Thedra?”
She turned her head to him and asked, looking into his dark blue eyes, her eyes a brown hazel, “Yes, Rock?”
“I want you to close your eyes, okay?”
Thedra tilted her head at him, confused why he would ask her this, but complied. As she closed her eyes, she took a deep breath, and after a moment let it out. She then asked her love, “Ok. What now?”
“I want you to be here. In the present. I don't want you to worry about what might happen. I’m worried and scared too, but for tonight, let’s not worry about that, okay?”
Thedra wanted to believe Rock. Oh, she did, but she knew their future would lead to only hardship now. Maybe he was right. If there would never be another peaceful moment again, then they should enjoy this while they could. She then replied, thinking out loud, “Alright. I won’t worry about tomorrow, but… Maybe… Maybe we could raise him ourselves?”
She opened her eyes, a plan forming in her mind. If it worked, it would mean that maybe they could save their baby. Maybe he wouldn’t be doomed after all. “I mean, why not? We don’t have to return to the village.”
“Thedra,” Rock placed a paw on top of hers, and continued, looking into her eyes deeply, “I know they’ve heard the prophecies about the purple eyed wolves, but maybe they’ll think he’s the good one. I could return myself and tell them about our son…”
“No!” Thedra nearly shouted, her mouth gaping in horror at the thought of exposing her son to the terrifying world. “We can’t. What if they don’t? What if they think he’s the evil one, and they… They…”
“Kill him?” She watched as he looked down at their paws, and he added, “If they told me they wanted to kill him, then I wouldn’t return. Wait a week and if I don't come back, then leave.”
“No, stay with me.” Thedra pleaded. “I want to raise him in secret. Please. Rock…” She felt her love for him overflow, and she leaned forward to brush her muzzle against his. They both sighed, lost in thoughts, and Thedra spoke up, “It’s like you said. Let’s not worry about tomorrow. Let’s enjoy tonight. Let’s enjoy our beloved son.”
Suddenly, something bumped her jaw, and both parents looked down to see their pup wagging his tail playfully below them. Then their pup turned to look at Rock, and with a cute little growl launched himself up, and grabbed onto his dad’s muzzle. Rock let out a laugh, and playfully shook his snout, making his son squeal in delight. Then, he lowered his muzzle, and the pup let go, scampering back to his mom.
The pup was only a big as his parent’s paws, and that made Thedra love him even more. Her bundle of joy was hers, and Rocks, and nothing would take that away.
“Okay.” Rock answered, making Thedra look back to him. “For tonight, let’s enjoy him, our son. Tomorrow we’ll worry about the future.”
“Thank you.” She murmured, and then after leaning in, gave him a lick on the cheek lovingly. When she withdrew, they both turned to look at their pup.
He stood bravely in front of them, eyeing the forest around suspiciously, as if something might jump out and fight him. Although he looked brave, Thedra knew he wouldn’t stand a chance on his own. Not yet. And that was why she would protect him. He needed her, and she needed him. She needed something to be proud of. Something to make her life happy again.
Then as her love spoke up, she looked back at him, “What should we call him?” His eyes were back on their cub, and she turned her eyes back to their son.
The pup turned around and smiled proudly at them, and at that moment, the stars above seemed to shine down on him, and reflect in his eyes. It seemed like the stars were meant for him, for his eyes shone brightly, and it seemed at that moment like he was the most perfect thing in the world.
Thedra spoke up, putting a paw back on Rocks, “Starlight. His name is Starlight, or perfect little pup.” Starlight seemed to somehow know they were talking about him, for he ran back to his mom and nuzzled her neck lovingly. She smiled, and warmth filled her heart. She then whispered, holding her pup close to hear, “Your name is Starlight, and I won’t let anything happen to you. No one will take you from me, or try and change you, because you’re perfect the way you are. You’re my little star, and will protect you…”
Then she lifted her eyes, and suddenly, she felt the love from inside burn fiercely, and she glared at the trees and bushes around. If there were any creatures watching they would have ran, because her gaze could be felt. She then finished, clutching her pup closely, “No matter the cost.”
Chapter 1
UV
To any other wolf, standing on the beach and watching the waves lap against the pebble-strewn shore, would seem peaceful and relaxing. But to Starlight, it only seemed to make him feel lonelier by the minute.
The rising sun had filled the horizon as far as he could see with red and orange flames, which, reflecting back into his purple eyes, dazzled him. He lifted his muzzle and let out a sigh as the wind tugged at his pitch-black pelt, making it seem as if they were trying to take his pain, and let it drift away in the breeze.
He had been here for a few hours, watching as the bright stars blinked out one at a time, to soon be replaced by the blazing sun that bore down on him now. And, although the sun was bright, it could not light his heart. Nothing can… There’s nothing I can do anymore. It’s been so long.
He shook his head, trying to shake the thoughts out like a bug in his fur. Well, at least I still have mom. At least she didn't give up on me like dad.
It had been sixteen years since his dad, Rock, had left. Well, he didn't really leave. He just gave up on me. He thought I was evil, but I’m not! I’m completely fine… Fine other than the fact that he had no friends, and was treated like some homicidal mass murderer on a daily basis, which he WASN’T by the way.
Starlight had tried to make friends before, venturing into the forest when his mom was asleep (Mostly because his mom wouldn’t allow him to talk to anyone else for reasons like, chaos among the realms, death to him for just existing, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. Nothing important.), and when he did manage to escape on his own, he had found another wolf and tried to talk to them.
“Hey!” Starlight had greeted the stranger excitedly, since he had never met another wolf other than his parents. But, once the other wolf laid eyes on Starlight, the wolf let out a wail of terror, and fled into the forest, screaming, “No, get back! The eyes!”
Starlight had ran after him, but after a few minutes gave up, unable to track where the wolf had gone. It was at that moment he had realized the truth. It was like his mom had always said: He was considered the enemy, and whether he liked it or not, he had to live in secret and to one day prove he was the good wolf in the prophecy.
With the prophecy left unfulfilled for so long, his mom had told him the worries were beginning to die down. That maybe the prophecy was made up, wherever it came from, and that no one had to worry. So, in worse case scenario, they could wait it out, and reveal themselves when everyone relaxed.
For his mom, she seemed to believe everyone would forget, but for Starlight, it was hard to think the same, because he knew his father was somewhere out there, with the knowledge of him and his mother, and their whereabouts. Starlight had tried to convince his mom to leave their hideout on the edge of the forest, in the side of a cliff facing the ocean, but she’d always reply with, “This is the safest place to live, here in out den.” Or “”Maybe he’ll change his mind and come back to us.” So, at that point he gave in and in result, they stayed in their den beneath the cliff side.
So, after that first wolf ran away, Starlight almost gave up hope. But, he knew one thing: He didn’t want to live in secret. He wanted to have a life outside of his parent’s den. He wanted to have friends. To be able to stretch his legs and run free in the forest (Which he rarely did, unless his mom said he could.).
So, he didn’t loose hope. He made a vow, that once a week he would sneak out of the cave at night, and venture into the forest, to hopefully find someone who would talk to him, or maybe even be his friend, if that was a possibility at all. So far, whenever he found a wolf, which was a rare chance, they would run away, but he hadn’t given up. Not yet at least.
Suddenly frigid cold water washed up and over his paws, making Starlight jump back in surprise, jerked out of his thoughts. He glared at the water, watching as it retreated back into the sea, back into the vast and empty ocean before him that seemed to echo his heart. Lifting a paw, he groomed his paw fur down, cringing at the salty tang it left on his tongue, and then turned back towards the tunnel behind him. I should probably get back home now. Mom will be wondering where I am.
So, with that he walked towards the tunnel opening, tilting his head back to gaze at the towering walls of stone above, the cliff side of the vast forest high above. Then, lowering his gaze to the dark tunnel, he walked inside. Within a few moments, he was engulfed in shadow, but he had traveled this route so many times, he could have found his way back to the cave in his sleep. Wanting to get his mind clear, he pushed off at a sprint, and ran through the tunnels, tilting upwards, higher towards the forest above.
The cold tunnel was wide enough to fit to wolves side by side most of the way, but as he neared the entrance to the den, the tunnel narrowed, brushing his sides. He then paced himself down until he was walking again, pushing onward through the stone against his sides. Then, he looked on ahead and found a boulder blocking the tunnel ahead.
To any other creature, it would have looked like a dead in, but Starlight knew what he was doing. Slowly, he squeezed up to the boulder, and lifted a paw off the ground, which was hard to do in the small space. Then, he began to scratch on the boulder’s side with his claws, and at the same time, began to say the password.
“Deep inside lies a heart, shattered in two, that only love can save. But if that love dies, so does the lover, and the pup lives on.” I never got that last part. It doesn’t even rhyme! Every good passcode should rhyme. Maybe we should change it…
He waited a moment, but then narrowed his eyes in confusion and shouted at the boulder, “Mom? Can you hear me?”
A voice replied inside, in more of a question than an answer, “Yes? Depends on who’s asking.”
“Who do you thinks asking? I’m the only who lives here, other than you.” Silence fell for a moment, and Starlight growled. Then he yelled, “Thedra, just open the door!”
“Okay, fine! Don’t have to yell. I’m just being cautious.” Then, he watched as the boulder was rolled aside, and blinked as light wafted into the tunnel.
He let his eyes adjust to the light, and walked into the room, scanning his surroundings. It was mostly empty, except for a half eaten fox on the side of the cave. The cave that wasn’t within the cliff lay open to the ocean far below. Starlight stood there, gazing at the sky as it began to change to blue, the bloody dawn fading.
“Okay, enough gazing, you should go hunt. We’re running low on food supplies, and with winter on its way we need to store up prey.” Thedra pushed the boulder back, grunting with effort until it fell into its usual spot blocking the entrance from any other animal. She gasped, “One of these days I swear I’m going to crush my tail under this rock, and it’s not going to be pretty.”
Starlight chuckled, and replied, “Okay, I’ll go hunting in a bit.” Then, deciding he would finish watching the sunrise, he walked to the edge of the cave, a few feet away just to be safe, and was the ocean turn from scarlet red to ocean blue. He sat down, and reminded himself not to doze off here. The drop form here was… How could he say it… Not exactly promising. It would result in sure death, since it ended in a sheer cliff into the ocean below about one hundred feet.
Then, his mother joined him, sitting down by his side. He looked over and saw her smiling at him widely. Confused, he asked, “What? Is there something in my fur? I swear, if there is any more seaweed stuck on me, I’m going to… Oh I don't know… Hurt it really bad!”
“No,” She laughed, “No seaweed.”
“Then what is it?”
“You’ve just grown so much. I remember when you were just a lil’ pup. You’d snuggle up against me, and I’d sing you to sleep every night. But now,” She looked me up and down, and then finished, “You’re nearly as big as me. Nearly as big as…” She trailed off, and he finished in his head. Dad.
She lowered her gaze to her paws for a moment, but with a deep breath raised her gaze, and then looked back out against the ocean. Starlight nuzzled her gently and lovingly on her neck, and then got up and retreated farther back into the cave. Thedra asked him curiously, “What’s wrong?”
He replied, lying down in his usual sleeping spot filled with cozy moss in the back of the cave, “Just taking a quick rest before I hunt.” The moss felt warm from this morning and Starlight sighed, and closed his eyes, hoping to get some shuteyes.
Then, he began to hear his mom sing something. He opened his eyes, and watched her, her fur flowing in the wind as she overlooked the rising sun. Then, after closing his eyes, he listened to her song. The one she had always sung him to sleep with when he was young.
Oh, little hero, don’t you cry,
Rest your little head.
The night has finally come by,
With the sun now dead.
So dream on, my babe,
And never rise again,
For your dreams are your freedom,
And your life is only a sin.
And I’ll fight for you,
I won’t let you go,
I’d die for you,
If it must be so.
I’ll kill any creature,
Big, or strong,
To protect my precious pup,
For you belong,
To me.
My perfect son.
For you, are the chosen one
And, for the first time in a long time, Starlight closed his eyes, and dreamed a dreamless, and peaceful sleep.
But little did he know, everything he loved, everything he knew, was about to change, forever.
Chapter 2
UV
Sunlight exploded into the tunnel as Starlight pushed the boulder out of the way and into the clearing above. He squinted, his eyes adjusting to the sudden change of light from the darkness of the tunnels, to the bright world above. After a moment, he opened his eyes, and scanned the familiar surroundings.
Thedra had rudely awaked Starlight only a few minutes ago, and realized he had way overslept. Not that he MEANT to, because he didn't. And yet, she still thought he had slept in on purpose, so he tried to ignore it. After saying goodbye to his mom, he left the cave, and travelled up the tunnels to the entrance of the forest above, hidden from the outside. If I’m still going to hunt at all, I better start now. The sun is already high in the sky.
He took a step forward, and then once he had exited the secret tunnel hidden beneath a pile of boulders, Starlight pushed the movable boulder back in its place, and turned back to the lush forest around him.

~Intertwined Hearts~
This is a short story for my dearest mate, Scafen. This Friday marks our one month anniversary, and while that's not much, we've already been through so much together, and it feels like I've know him my whole life. I'm writing this short story to go with another present later on (which will make sense later Scafen ;P), and I hope you love this story as much as I do.
For Scafen:
Despite all the doubts you and me both have... Despite the distance between us... And despite the choices I had to make to let us happen... You're worth it all to me. I love you, and I can't wait till the day we first meet. You're my big, strong derg, and I really couldn't ask for a better boyfriend ever... I love you, Scafen <3
I woke up one night, blinking my eye lids, trying to make sense of what had woken me...
...
I was in a small cave... with a dim fire in the corner...
Sure it was small... But it was our home...
I couldn't help but blush and giggle, watching you across the cave... Watching your back rise and fall peacefully as you slept, a little bit further from the fire since you loved the cold. That only made me chuckle more, and I slowly walked over to you, swaying my tail peacefully behind me.
Your blue diamond eyes were closed, and it gave me so much joy just to see you safe... My mate, here with me, with me forever, where I wouldn't have to worry anymore... Where we could be together forever.. With no one to hold us back from showing our love.
...
As I walked closer, I tilted my head, watching as your bretahing stopped for a moment, curious...
And then you opened your eyes, let out a playful growl, and jumped up at me, pushing me over onto my side, tackling me like you always do, rolling on the floor like two little hatchlings with nothing to worry about.
We went rolling, cuffing at each others muzzle, growling playfully and giggling our heads off. As we played tackled, I landed on top of you, and twined my tail with yours, pressing my chest lightly on top of yours.
It was you...
No words needed to be said...
I just delved into those icy blue eyes of yours, smiling and letting a tear fall down my cheek as I watched your complex emotions sparkle in those handsome eyes. Everytime I looked into them, it was like watching the northern lights... So many emotions locked behind your shy personality... I could watch it forever, and just get lost in it... In my mate's eyes...
I lowered my head down, tilting my head slowly, going down for a kiss at first... But then... as my neck arched down to kiss you... I felt a spark of fear... A strike of lightening hit my head... and I grimaced, lowering my head beside yours, letting our cheeks touch as I nuzzled you lovingly.
I heard you grumble about how you wanted to kiss me... And trust me, I wanted to... But...
Something just wasn't right yet... I didn't feel at peace with myself yet... Though I tried to hide it...
You smiled back at me, and murred as your velvet cheek rubbed against mine in the most endearing way, setting my cheeks ablaze. I chuckled, nuzzling back at you, kissing your cheek, and closing my eyes as my tongue slowly licked beneath your eyes... At...
...tears?
And, I was crying too...
I blinked, looking back at you, into your eyes, and I saw something flash inside them... Fear... something I felt a moment before... Something I first found in you a while back... A hidden feeling which you refused to reveal...
As I reached out a paw to brush you cheek, I closed my eyes...
...
And yet... My paw met nothing... only empty, nothingness. A void.
I opened my eyes, looking for your warm, welcoming body next to mine, but you were gone...
...
I was then in a forest...
A forest with lights... Yellow lanterns... hanging down from each tree branch, lighting the midnight forest in a loving glow. The laterns emmitted dust, golden dust, that slowly drifted through the air with the breeze.
I watched in awe as they fluttered in the wind, carried along by it's wishes...
To my surprise though... The sparkling lights began to form a path... Expanding beyond my sight in front of me... A path full of light, leading to something...
I could suddenly feel the darkness of the forest around me. Glaring eyes, greedy and murderous hearts watching from behind the trees... Wanting to kill me...
I instantly ran, following the peaceful floating lights. As I continued running, sprinting towards something, I watched behind me as the lights faded... The path I had chosen before, fading that golden dust into ashes, watching as the path I took left sparkling ashes in it's wake, setting the forest on fire...
I began to pant, feeling my heart racing, feeling tears well up in my eyes as I ran for my life... Spreading my wings and flapping, hoping to fly into the air... But for some reason my wings refused to carry me...
I only kept running, hearing the roaring of the flames behind me, reminding me that I did this... All that fire... The path I chose before... and the one I kept choosing... Only left fire and ruin in it's wake...
I blinked once though, watching the fire, and for a moment, saw it disapear...
The fire replaced by dazzling blue lights... Little flickers of hope, lighting up every inch of the forest, filling me with peace... and love...
Then, as I blinked again, I yelped, feeling the fire snap on my tail, sending me running out of the forest ahead on to a cliff side, leaving the forest behind me.
After finally escaping it's deadly grasp, I fell onto the ground, panting...
Everything in my head span... and images of loved ones formed in my head.
"Derek... I love you..."
"We all do..."
"Come back..."
I looked back at the voices, back at the forest, and my jaw gaped as I saw my family...
My... Family...
I began to whimper, letting tears stream down my eyes as I watched them staring at me from the flames...
Three young drakes...
My older dragoness sister...
My mother and father...
All of them were there, smiling, opening their wings to me...
I reached out, stumbling up to run towards them... But as I ran, almost tripping over my own paws, I stopped in my tracks.
The fire leaped out of the forest... Lapping at their bodies, watching as their smiling faces, so loving... smoldered and bruned into the fire... Leaving me alone in the dark as the fire soon passed...
...
I looked over my shoulder, watching as one last line of golden lights lit up a path... a path to the edge of the cliff...
I followed it, and noticed how these golden lights flickered... As if they were themselves giving up... and as I looked back, I watched the sparkling ashes fall to the ground, expecting the lights to burn the grass... But now the grass was gone... There was nothing left to burn...
Only dirt...
I had destroyed everything... all the life I once knew was gone...
Except...
...one.
I widened my eyes, squinting forward to find... a dragon... sitting on the edge of the cliff, tail over his talons, with his head slumped over and his wings lowered, shivering...
"Scafen!!!" I yelled, smiling, trying to wipe away all my emotions... My heart burst inside, seeing my lover once more... So close... His captivating emotions, deep and loving... His soul... yearning for love... His hopelessness... Wrapped inside a box that he refused to open... Scared that if he opened the box, like he had before... That all the hope that remained would be thrown into the ocean, tossed about in the waves, lost forever... Leaving him with nothing left but an empty soul, and a broken heart...
I ran as fast as I could towards my mate, my love!!
My heart beat faster, watching as he glanced over his wing at me, smiling, blushing turning his blue scales red as he swished his tail behind him, throwing a kiss at me.
I laughed, feeling tears of joy stream down my maw and dripping off my chin as I sped towards you. Every step brought me closer, and I knew that once I was with you, I could forget everything... Just finally live my life with the one I loved and never looked back... no matter how much the pain hurt...
But as I reached closer, I watched your smile turn to a frown, and stopped in my tracks, watching as you tied your wings to your side... You then cried... sobbing as you looked back at me...
I slowly walked towards you... And that was it...
You lifted a paw... and closing your eyes, I watched as you placed your paw on the open air beyond the cliff, meeting nothing but an echo as your body slowly plunged over the edge, into the ocean far below.
I screamed, and jumped into the air, soaring as fast as I could, plunging over the cliff side and soaring down the cliff towards the ocean slowly growing closer beneath me.
Your body was turned over, falling beneath me, just out of my grasp... Your face looked up at me, and you smiled, one last time, images of our life flashing before my eyes... Meeting for the first time... having a cave to call our own... living our life together... dancing in the snow... kissing beneath the lake... making love to each other... All those dreams...
And then... the waves swallowed you up
The foam covered your body, leaving only crashing waves where your body once fell.
I formed into a dive, and as I hit the water, I swam down below the surface, trying to save you, screaming into the water as bubbles filled my vision... I didn't even know how to swim, but I couldn't lose you!!! I COULDN'T! I loved you and I would never let you go!
As I tried to swim, I only was dragged furthur out into the ocean, watching as your body was swallowed up by the darkness, bubble rising from your once life filled body, watching as you dissipeared from my vision.
I didn't have time to think though as I soon realized I couldn't swim to the surface... My paws wouldn't tread the water... They only slid deeper into the claws of death...
I could feel my bretah runing short... and soon enough, I gave in... Not having anything to live for without you..
I felt my maw open willingly, taking in the deadly venom...
I suffered, and died... Falling into the endless void beneath the ocean... a place where my soul would be forever seperated from you... The only person I could ever love...
But that was it...
...
I had another vision of my father, standing beside you on the cliff, digging his claws into your heart, you on your back as he ripped it from your body, leaving you bleeding and screaming...
I felt the anger of the whole world in my claws, and I charged towards him, baring my teeth, ready to tear up his fucking flesh!
But he faded away, and I arrived at nothing but your bleeding dead body...
All because of my choices...
All because I was selfish...
All because of me...
All because of me...
A failure...
A worthless excuse for a son...
A loner who would never find love...
Because he would never be good enough...
...
...................................................................................................
THEN!
I woke up, yelling, jolting up and nearly falling into the fire nearby...
I looked around, trying to figure out where I was...
And finally it hit me... and I breathed a sigh of relief...
It was only a dream... Only a dream...
I began to well up tears, moving to where you were sleeping, so happy you were okay...
But you were gone...
...
...no...
no...
no.
No.
No!
NO!
NO!!!!!
I shouted, searching the cave madly, my breath going crazy, knowing you were here earlier... I felt my tail singe a bit as it ran into the fire, but none of that mattered... all that mattered was finding you!
I pinched myself, checking that this was real... and this was real... it wasn't a dream...
But then I remembered what you had told me earlier... Earlier that night before we fell asleep with each other...
"Hey, Derek... I'm going to go for a walk later tonight... Just out by the lake... You know... hehe..." He chuckled, smiling and blushing, "The one we first kissed at..."
I asked you why, and you said it was just to do some heavy thinking... and you wanted to do it alone...
But now... I realized...
My dreams... they... they were warning me.
I just knew it! I could feel it!
You were in trouble, and I needed to save you.
And that... That... is where out story begins...
