Dropping the both of them off at the hospital was the easy part for Abigail, the hard part was having to go back and make sure there was nothing left of the actual fight from last night to get people all noisy into their business.
It was a positive that it rained last night, so it's not like she had to do any hardcore clean up. As for the beast itself, it seemed to be conjured up by magic as far as she could tell, so it should've evaporated away into nothing not long after it died.
Making her way back there, she stood just out on the street looking into the alleyway and got both a whopping heap of good news and bad news.
Good News:The beast did indeed disappear.
Bad News: She couldn't even go in to check for anything else because of the police tape at her waist level telling her to stop from moving on ahead.
Abigail muttered under her breath in frustration, "Oh sure, now they all show up. How about when people started dying, or would that bite into doughnut eating time or something?"
Yes, the area was taped off. But the police, or most of them had already cleared the area and were mostly done except for one that arrived and went under the tape. That one was a female puffin, who showed her badge to several officers. She was Special Deputy U.S. Marshal Ciel V. Sosa.
She had come to the scene on orders of her Superior, U.S. Marshal Victoria Q. 'Bessie' Bledsoe. She was to search the scene for more clues so Bessie could get Ark to open up on why he had so many injuries and why Gabriel, his younger brother, though having a fracture, was mostly unscathed. Why were they at the scene of the incident.
"Well, let's see what I can find," the puffin said to herself. She was also alerted to look out for a red headed lizard woman. However, she hadn't seen her yet.
As much as Abigail wanted to just turn around and walk away, she had to think of someway to get in there and just take a quick glance around. At least to put her mind at ease. That's when the idea hit her.
Reaching into her jacket, she quickly slid on her specially made metallic claws that slid over her fingers. Sure she could do this with her regular claws too, but the metal ones made things much easier and actually did more damage while also not running the risk of getting her own fingers lodged in someone.
Taking a quick glance left and right to make sure no one was looking, she carefully leaped up onto the wall and started quietly crawling along the side of the building, getting to just about above the second floor as she found herself easily passing by some cops walking under her.
That's the funny thing about expectations. Most people wouldn't even consider looking straight upward. It's just such an awkward thing to consider.
She ended up right around the corner and looked down on the alleyway where all the other cops were mostly messing with the scene. All that was there was an overturned garbage bin and some small impact craters on the ground or around the walls. Thankfully it was nothing, but to her, it was better safe then sorry.
As Abigail made to move her way back the way she came, her long tail would follow behind her, yet the sudden motion would cause a quick flash of green moving around the corner at the edge of a certain US Marshal's eye. Sadly, that was enough for Abigail to hear a clear "HALT YOU! Stop where you are!"
Abigail scoffed as she heard that, clearly she needed to find someway to play this off.
Climbing down the wall outside the police tape just to be safe, she decided not to run and draw suspicion to herself as she waited for the puffin lady to catch up as Abigail calmly and carefully took off her metal claws one at a time off her fingers.
"Sorry 'bout all that ma'am. Got some new custom-made mountain climbing claws today I wanted to test out. Thought I wouldn't be a bother if I tried them out where I wouldn't be seen but didn't even notice there was a whole crime scene going on under me! Crazy huh?"
Ciel slowed and walked up to her. She was not wanting to make a scene either. At least, there wouldn't be any physical contact. She knew anybody could record, and that even included this lizard woman.
Nevertheless, she activated her powers. She was after all, a walking recording camera and surveillance device. She was well within her right and duty.
Having heard what she said, she responded.
"So I see, do you parkour or free-run here around here often?"
Abigail shrugged, "Not often. I try to find the time when I can when I got free time. Mostly I try stuff like this outside the city where I don't have to worry about freaking people out with jumping and climbing all over. Wouldn't want people to think I was some kind of thief or anything. But I just couldn't help myself when these babies arrived."
She raised her hands and wiggled her fingers up, showing the claws that were still on her fingers that she hadn't finished taking off yet.
Ciel, using her bionic eyes as cameras, took pictures of the metal claws. *She may had used those to help that guy fight whatever the hell it was, that put him in the hospital.* she thought to herself.
"Ah, well, let me introduce myself," the puffin replied, as she pulled out her ID/Badge holder. She presented her badge and picture to Abigail. "My name is Special Deputy U.S. Marshal Sosa, U.S. Marshal Service."
She paused some.
"I need to ask you some questions. But first, what is your name?"
Abigail shrugged as she continued to finish taking her claws off. "Abigail. Listen, will this take long? I'm actually late to this thing I need to get to."
Ciel looked at her, but still kept cool. "That all depends, on how well you answer my questions."
She paused for moment to gather her thoughts as she pulled out a picture of Ark and Gabriel together. ""Like for example, You know these two?"
Abigail looked at the photo, on the outside she seemed cool-headed but on the inside, her brain was wracking on how to best approach this.
"Yeah, Ark's a buddy of mine. He crashed his bike last night and I helped get them both to the hospital."
She could only hope Ark stuck to that story. When he was still out, Abigail discussed with Gabe on a convincing explanation that they all had to stick to. And of course, he would tell Ark as well when he woke up finally.
Ciel, smirked a little. But still remained serious. "Okay, because, you were IDed by people at the hospital, and you had cuts and related too. Why didn't you stick around and got treated yourself Ms. Abigail?"
She paused some. "Plus, when YOU said, he crashed his bike. I find that hard to believe. I checked the police reports, and to my frustration, I couldn't find such. But then, my colleague saw the bike, it wasn't damaged. Even, the cameras at the hospital, saw you leave and that motorcycle wasn't in bad condition."
She narrowed her eyes at the red headed woman. Wondering, what she would say next.
Abigail shrugged, "Bike's pretty tough apparently. And I wasn't really hurt that badly, so I was able to walk out of the hospital just fine."
Ciel sighed in frustration. "Okay, that's enough, for now." She turned and walked away.
The cop seemed frustrated and walked away, meaning she had nothing on her. Which gave Abigail a rather devious smile as she decided to have a little fun.
"What? Is that it? A cutie cop like you stops to talk and just walks away? That seems a little rude."
Ciel stiffened and then looked at her. "Just because, you had round one, doesn't mean. You won, YET! Don't worry, we'll meet AGAIN Abigail. Believe me, we've only, JUST BEGUN."
Abigail continued her grin as she walked up to the Marshal. "Won what? I was just questioned about something that happened last night. I didn't realize there was a game going on."
Deciding to get under her feathers, she looked right up at her. "If you want, we could meet up after you finish work and we could play a... different game."
The puffin was silent and looked away for a moment as if deep in thought before she looked back at Abigail and said.
"We don't need to play a different game, I will find what I need, then we'll see what happens then."
She walked off, not looking back at the lizard.
Abigail however was still having too much fun right now. This marshal was trying her best to be professional, but even she could tell she was close to cracking. Not stopping, he walked up alongside her with a smug smile on her face.
"Oh come on, there's no need to be so stiff and serious all the time."
As if to blatantly troll the puffin, Abigail reached up with a finger and gently scratched under her beak!
"Anyone ever tell you that you're really cute when you get angry?"
She knew Abigail was trying to riffle her feathers and get her to blow up. So she stopped, took a few breaths and calmed down. She still refused to look at her. "Abigail, believe me, when it comes time to pay the piper. Be sure you're ready to pay."
"And another thing, I let me be, because despite the rep that cops are going through right now. I know good attorneys. And I could have you arrested for harassment. While in the course of doing our job."
"Please, don't let it come to that. I prefer it not to be so."
Abigail took one step back and waved her hands in an exaggerated motion. "Ooh! The big, gruff, serious cop cliche! Lemmie guess, you were thinking about how I was trouble the moment I walked up."
Feeling she had gotten as much fun as she was going to get out of her, Abigail turned around and started to walk away. "Free tip, how about taking the time to have some fun instead of acting like you got sand stuck up somewhere sensitive."
She stopped looking at the marshal as she continued to walk away and waved her hand as if it were a half-hearted wave good bye. She had better things to take care of, like maybe figure out a way for Ark to better react towards Gabe being in trouble.
"I wonder if his book has that one ritual..."
Just before she was out of earshot, she could've sworn she heard an "AAAAARRRRRGGGHHHH!" off in the distance behind her. This day was definitely a good one in the lizard's book.
