My Mom has asked me to do a pumpkin carving for a school contest. The students from Kindergarten to....possibly 5th or 6th grade are the ones who are voting for the best one. She was kind of vague on that process but it doesn't really matter. I'm more interested in overall comments.
I gave my Mom four different designs to choose from and we felt that this was the best choice, mostly because of the size of the pumpkin and the design is rather simple compared to the others. One needed a redesign, another needed careful planning and required more work and detail, and the last one was simple too but I think it needed a bigger pumpkin.
If anyone wants to give it a try, I'll post the designs in my scrap pile and post their links in the description.

It's a simple but solid choice of design, no doubt. Personally, I probably would've had the open part be in more of a circle as if to be the moon and have it end right under the chin. I do like how the neck scruff looks, but the fur look could be more detailed if this was a more elaborate design. Considering it's to be voted on by 1-6th graders, the minimal detail probably fits the destination more than an overly complicated carve would've been.
I give it a 8/10 for being simple, but with small, good details that lend the carve towards what this season is about.

Yeah, considering this was my first Pumpkin carving I didn't want to be too ambitious and mess it up completely. I wanted a bit of a challenge though and I felt I could get it with this design and the size and shape of the pumpkin didn't really help matters too much. I like your comment and I'll take your suggestion into consideration for next time. Hopefully I'll have a better pumpkin by then too. Thank you much.
