Yeah, he wanted it to happen over at his place but instead a dragon came and ate everyone at his friends place. I probably should have mentioned it, or maybe that would have been to much info.. but then again I kinda just explained it here so I guess i'll leave it here.

One little thing that might help explain everything would be having the dragon say something like, "Ah, Hell, I bet I got the wrong apartment again, didn't I? No wonder they seemed so surprised to see me! Sorry about that, but I'm going to crash here for the night, but if you can come back this time tomorrow, there will be enough room in my gut to squeeze you in. Or better yet, just stay here and give me a good belly massage and I should be able to fit you in a lot quicker.
