Viali - Wing & Glider Digit Detail
A concept sketch of the structure and detail of a Viali's wing.
A Viali's feathers are like a bird's feathers, soft, light-weight, hollow, and (for some types) interlocking. Their plumage is an excellent insulator, so it helps protect them to some degree from temperature change.
They have an extra-long digit that is connected to the long edge of their wing which lets them control their wings and keep them mostly-rigid in flight. The extra digit is called the glider digit, or glider for short, and it has a very long, retractable claw that extends when the digit is pointed forward. The claw is (or at least was, back when the Viali were more primitive hunters/survivors) used mainly for stabbing their prey, or less lethally, for poking something.
Their four digits go by these names: thumb, index, little/pinky, and glider.
