Oh yeah, deer are notorious for snacking on birds and raiding low nests of chicks. Hell, even baby rabbits are a tasty treats to deer.

There is literally no mammal that can't, or even won't, eat meat. Cows stomp and eat mice, squirrels raid nests to eat baby birds, and rabbits chase kill and eat snakes, and almost everything eats ticks like little blood flavored gushers candies. Something as rich in building blocks as a whole building is too big of a boon to pass over so it's never evolved away.

Huh....always just figured that there were anthro and non-anthro versions of the same species. It's just that the anthro ones simply don't see themselves as the same. Humans are a type of ape, yet we see ourselves as completely different then the apes of the wild. It's like when you have an anthro horse driving a carriage pulled by non-anthro horses. He wouldn't see himself as a two legged horse.

I considered this (Puz and Di's pet was shown as a cat for a long time) but it would get weird if like, Puzzle was a giraffe and went to a zoo with feral giraffes XP

Would think it would be like us going to see chimps....

Well basically, in that setting there are NO non-anthromorphic animals, not even insects or fish, so they choose certain parts of the food animal population and drug them from birth to keep them from developing mentally, essentially reducing them to a lobotomized slave race. What makes this even more ghoulish is that it's usually sentient members of the same species running the farms, the joke being the level of rationalization the job requires.

I have always asked myself this question about the furry universes of each author, is that the authors make that their characters respect the herbivorous or carnivorous side of the animal, or make them living omnivorous. i kinda don't like the retcon of this it used to be like fur will fly webcomic world where some predation is allowed like organ donors or criminals getting eaten and their was a grazer park for grazing herbivores and hunter anthros to hunt them and the human character got chased by a predator anthro it stopped chasing him after he got out of the parks borders it was funny i kinda want to see nightshade going to a butcher shop near a max prison and getting a female zebra prisoner from said butcher shop to look like her enemy dimond and see patrick's look of disgust for the lol's or maybe nightshade met pat by chasing a grazing patrick out of a grazer park and catching him but outside the parks boundaries and decided he was better in bed than on a piece of bread lol just a thought

I run a similar approach in my sona setting, tho it's limited to fish, insects and reptilians are none anthro. So these three groups of animals covers all sorts of roles in the world's ecosystem, as well as the diffrent roles in the anthro civilization, such as riding mounts or beasts of burden.

I considered having prehistoric mammals still exist as beasts of burden, but I may drop the idea X3
