This is a commissioned character presentation created by
damiem .
This is the third of several character presentations that I and members of my online D&D group have commissioned Damien to depict. These presentations show off the Player Characters (PC's) of our Tyranny of Dragons campaign's adventuring party known as the Dragon Tamers. The party currently includes seven members. (Since I am the DM, I am technically not one of them!)
As of this submission we are currently in "part two" of the campaign, The Rise of Tiamat!
This PC is Evrios the Storyteller, a male human bard of the Neutral Good alignment. He is played by the incredibly spontaneous
tsii .
Orphaned at an early age due to the accidental death of a childhood friend, Evrios has never had an established home to think of. But he doesn't mind that: his associates become his home, and his wanderlust always draws him to new places and to new stories. Before becoming an adventurer Evrios was part of a performing troupe known as the Dazzling Jacks. Eventually he and his colleagues split ways, but their friendships never wavered. Since then his curiosity into mysteries and history has given him a sparkling intelligence, and his handsome charm has allowed him to get past many deadly scrapes.
Unfortunately his skills did not prevent his capture by the Cult of the Dragon, but thankfully he was rescued by the Dragon Tamers adventuring party in a dungeon known as the Hatchery. At first Evrios joins the party to record a new and stunning tale. But upon witnessing the wickedness committed by the Cult as well as experiencing their capture of his best friend, Tagley "Teg" Hayden, he realizes he has involved himself in something bigger.
Sadly Teg was killed by a mysterious poison and raised by the Cult as a human-hybrid dracolich under their thrall. In order to save Teg's soul, Evrios had to destroy both the raised dracolich and its phylactery, ending in a sad goodbye with Teg.
Since this event Evrios finds himself with a new purpose: to both bravely and fashionably defeat evil. Yet the bard has found out an intriguing secret recently: he bears the noble bloodline of an ancient hero known as Eredon, and apparently he has the potential to become a king if he plays his cards correctly...

✨INTENSE SPARKLING✨
Bring it on, Tiamat. More heads just means more ears to be exposed to the raw power of sassy comments.
Anyway, thanks for your kind words, for arranging for this piece to happen, and for bringing such an awesome group of people together in the first place. :>
While the party might consist of 8 members, the occasional 9th who you get to play does deserve an honourable mention. Even if he's only along for the ride because he's under Elise's instruction..!
...And a brief note to anyone who was expecting me to end up playing a massive lizardman or similar: yeah, I surprised myself too by not taking that route! I'm sure that'll end up happening at some point, though. c:

Tyranny of Dragons is a very straightforward campaign in terms of "that's the bad guy" and "dungeon crawling." Definitely OK for people new to playing Dungeons and Dragons (like me!). The big issue people see with the campaign (including myself) is that it is very railroaded. You constantly have NPC's at various "checkpoints" saying "Go here!" and "Do this," and there isn't much exploration.
I think a great thing to do (which is what I did for my campaign) is to add potential options along the journey for players to have exploration. A "stop and smell the roses" kind of thing. This will help the world feel like a bigger place. I think a good opportunity to do this is when the characters visit big cities, of which the characters will have a couple of opportunities to do. The characters might want to take up a job for example, or maybe there's something extra involving the bad guys you want to insert which feels seamless to the campaign.
Another issue with the campaign (that is my personal opinion) is that the villains are overall very lackluster and plain. Feel very much free to have the villains have more contact with the players, or show signs of their villainy, or add more personality and backstory to them. That will make the campaign better I feel.
Whatever you decide to do, hope you have fun! :)
