This species is a type of cave-dwelling wyvern, with a natural tendency to seek shelter in dark, secluded caves or caverns. The creature will typically nest in the largest cave it can find, and patrol the area to scout for intruders. At night, it will leave its cave in search of prey which it hunts using a long, venom-tipped tail that paralyzes its victims. It will then transport the prey to its nest where it will cover it with acidic saliva that it secretes from its proboscis-like tongue. The wyverns prefer to soften organs and soft tissue first, prioritizing more easily dissolved portions for ease of consumption. After the saliva sufficiently softens the prey into a soupy substance, it will feed by ‘drinking’ the prey with its tongue, typically leaving only bones and small amounts of undissolved material behind.
This species also has a complex set of vocal cords that allow for precise and extensive imitation of sounds, which it uses to mimic prey in order to elicit responses that may help it track its victims. The darkness of this species’ home environment helps especially against ocular-based creatures, where this talent and its exceptional sense of sound allow it to easily track any trespassers. It has also been known to employ traps and ambushes, as well as bait prey with stimuli (such as ‘wind’ from its wings) that indicate a potential exit from the cave systems it inhabits. Though this creature is blind, it makes up for it by adaptively using its environment to its advantage.
