Why, thats a reasonable request
I should have posted this 2 days ago when I drew it after , but I misplaced it til now.
Yes, this actually happened to me after I just paid my utility bill. This person actually came up to me and DEMANDED that I drive them downtown so they can take part in a protest.
I didn't take them and was rather short with them cause they A: Demanded I just drop what I was doing and take them. B: Didn't offer even gas money C: Refused to pay even gas money.
Like I said, I'm not an Uber and they can jolly well hike their ass down to their protest.
Had they politely asked me, even offered gas money, I likely would have. But demanding a total stranger to take you places is utter nonsense. And as the saying goes "Poor planning on your part, doesn't constitute an emergency on my part."

I not only don't want to argue with your logic here, I have to completely agree with you. Especially if giving you some gas money would still have been faster and cheaper than calling a taxi.
Next time he'll have to walk and tweet at the same time to make mit to his protest in time.
Great comeback about the Guatemalans walking 2,000 miles BTW

Had this happen to me twice, and once with my boyfriend's pick-up...
The problem with asking me is I ride a Triumph, and I won't take anyone on it without safety gear or understanding on how to be a bike passenger.
The guy who asked my boyfriend after being told politely "No." kicked the back of his truck hard as he was driving off. Mike hits the brakes immediately, gets out and looks at the small dent on his truck, then at the guy.
"Did you just kick my truck?" Mike's about 6 feet tall, heavyset and ex-military (still carries himself like military), the guy who kicked his truck is your average hipster, and until the Mike got out of his truck the guy had no idea how he was built.
I watch as the guy's face drains of colour, as Mike calmly says, "Because if you did, I will give you a ride out into the moors, where you will disappear." The guy bolted. I hear Mike shout after him, "Running's good exercise, keep it up! But you're going the wrong way!!"

I have had much the same happen to me in Seattle a couple of times.
I've had people that I knew do the same thing as you show here, read family. I did it one time just because. When I needed a ride they were busy and couldn't be bothered with helping me out. So the next time they need a ride I told them "Sure I would help them out..." then I found something else to do...

with the sheer number of events like this that you encounter, eventually someone is going to get offended in just the right way and shoot you before you get your gun out,... its like gambling you only can win so often. personally id move. dont count on luck and dont count on being first to shoot.
Thats a given, if you own a large truck or van, you are automatically drafted into helping people move. I had one 'friend' who only was nice to me or came over when it came to borrowing my truck to move himself or his repeated girlfriends.
After 4 times in 16 months I simply said "Sorry, need the truck that weekend."
Guess who never came over any more?

I was working a weekend training course during my time in the reserves and often on my way home on Sundays I'd collect any left over pizza or sandwiches and drive to my buddy's place. At the time that place was his father's place.
I pull in with the truck to find them loading boxes into a car, He and his dad come out with a sofa, so I ask where it is going.
The dad: It's going in the back of your truck.
Me: OK, sure.
A few minutes later.
The dad: Dan told you he was moving, right? You knew about this?
Me: No.
The dad: I am so sorry, I would never presume...
Me: I've helped Dan on his last five moves, if I had known the same thing would have happened.
Big difference, Dan and I get together for other things then helping him move.

I once had a job at a little car shop. the boss had many issues, one of it was often borrowing my private car, a wagon, for business transport jobs. the refilled tank didn't count against an improperly transported gearbox that damaged the trunk linings, wich are irreplacable because you just can't find new ones anymore. he just laughed it off. the second to last straw was when he tried to lent my car out to a customer who needed a replacement for their rundown vehicle. after describign the numerous issues of my car they decided to walk rather... at last the co-worker handed me a note askign me to hand him my car keys for another transport. which was when I told him to stuff it and look for a transporter for himself, because I wouldn't give him my car again ever. a wee bit later I quit that job, before I smash that moron's head in...
Sounds familiar. About 20 years or so, I was waiting at the light coming out of Stop and Shop in Colchester, CT. Suddenly, some skinhead wearing only a thin (¢heap) denim jacket yanked open the door of my Hyundai and started tossing my groceries in the back seat. Safety pins in the jacket and the skin -- nice. "What the Hell are you doing?"
"I need a ride." No destination specified, no other explanation. He keeps making space on the front seat. Now, it's the week before Christmas in Connecticut, 30°F and it's started raining. I picked up my four-D-cell Maglite and started striking any part of him I could reach. I'd spent more than a dozen years as a security officer; I'm trained in inflicting real harm with an improvised weapon. "What the f___you doin', man?"
I swung the Maglite at his face, deliberately breaking the arc. "I mean to kill you. Get it?"
"You're f______ nuts, man!" But he backed off. I opened the driver's door and he shuffled off nervously, looking over his shoulder at me and mouthing obscenities.
The Connecticut State Police barracks was a few blocks away. They took the report and even said, "Yeah, we know him," but they didn't seem concerned.

Yeesh, that guy sounds embarrassing for his fellow supporters. I may support that cause, but I'd never act like THAT to do it! I'd ask politely if I could hitch a ride. If I get refused, I'd understand, say as much with a wish for you to have a nice day. And I totally would pay you, even for gas :3 . I'd do the same for you in a bloody heartbeat if you were in that place, because I know yer shit loads nicer than that jerk.
Sometimes it seems like the world is full of asshats, eh? Glad we're not two of 'em. :3

I once had a total random guy jump in my car and gave me a shock, the guys said he got into the wrong car as his friends was similar.....but a few times people do think it is a taxi, its a diesel and part of its plate looks like taxi.....
But you cant just simply go up to someone demand a ride to some protest...you an either walk, call a cab/uber or get the bus

some people just don't think about what they are about to do. they do it, and it's right, because they do it... if anyone else did it there would be hell to pay for sure.
situation, at a car meed many years ago. I didn't lock my old ford, because honestly, there was nothign worth stealing inside. when night came I wanted to take a nap on the passenger seat, only to find some drunk guy sitting there already. I demanded him leaving right now... he protested, but after me threatening him with severe pain he eventually stumbled off.
there were more issues with acoholized guests there, so I never went to that meet again.
