[[NOT MY ART]] Danathius, Ascended Archmage
Danathius Aers had humble beginnings like most mages: he grew up in a backwater village, as opposed to one of Herun's major cities, but that is of little importance to this book. What is more notably was his entry into the High Wizardry Council at the age of a mere sixteen years old, two years younger than the minimum age requirement of the Council at the time; he was allowed entry due to his extraordinary display of skill in front of the era's Archmages at the time.
Much like today, the High Wizardry Council's policy was to remain neutral in times of war, but the events of the Resurgence War drew the mages and the rest of Altreak into conflict with the Drayg Empire, who was hostile toward all outsiders at the time. Danathius and a select group of friends he had made were key to ending the war before it escalated to even the farthest corners of Altreak.
Even as a young mage, Danathius displayed an aptitude for magic that was unheard of; we know now, of course, that it was due to his unusual heritage of being a draconic-blooded human, but that didn't stop him from pioneering certain practices of magic that are used in modern spellcrafting today. Indeed, one could write an entire book about how he devised the theory of resurrection magic, and his subsequent success in reviving a following friend from the dead.
Danathius was the sole cause of the Cult of Be'altuse incident that followed the Resurgence War by a few years, but he and his friends were also responsible for stopping Be'altuse's influence from spreading further and for ultimately destroying the demigod. After Be'altuse's defeat, Danathius went into hiding to ensure that his foray into furthering magical development didn't threaten the entirety of the continent.
Some fifty years later, Danathius was offered the position of Archmage at the High Wizardry Council, which he reluctantly accepted; he felt that many would remember the horrors he accidentally inflicted upon the world, but the people were far more grateful for his breakthroughs and discoveries. He was responsible for numerous guidelines and practices implemented into the High Wizardry Council we know today, and under his reign, both the Council and Altreak endured a period of peace, tranquility and discovery. Danathius Aers held the Archmage position for roughly fifty years before he stepped down, not looking a day older than when he had felled Be'altuse -- an unintended side effect of his unique heritage.
Though he has not been seen for the past five hundred years, it is under the author's assumption that Danathius is not dead -- he is simply hiding away, researching and developing while pushing the boundaries of magic in a private sanctum of his design. Perhaps the world will see him return some day. Some day.

"No, sir I cannot report that the Tread Magi is dead. He's not a Bard, for one thing. And I can report this: he has rather a whole lot of love backing him up, and that is why he's not dead."
