It is works such as this which makes me want to try needle felting as a model making process. I had built sculptures in Polyform clays on wire frames before, and some were even articulated. This technique however, does add a bit of "Realism" and would be a bit lighter than a figure built from clay. I admire and appreciate your airbrushing skills, which really help to set off those areas around the figure's face and eyes. Well done.
