I like it, but it's confusing. Is there a story I can read to understand the context of a rear facing wing gunner on the outside of the aircraft? Or is the gunner part of another larger aircraft that exploded above and the picture is a snapshot right before the falling gunner impacts on the wing of another aircraft on the way down? I ask because the gunner doesn't even have goggles, or breathing gear so it looks like maybe was part of another aircraft where the gun was mounted inside. The hoodie also seems like it would be a really bad idea to wear outside an aircraft in motion at high speeds. This isn't a nerd sharpshooting, you asked for criticism and I like the art enough to look at it and think about it.
This is definitely a stellar picture! I do have one critique regarding the muzzle of the focused character, particularly the upper muzzle orientation. Given his(?) stance is leaned back and his head turned to gaze at another off-screen point of interest I can see why there are many twists and bends for this dynamic to work. The top of his muzzle seems a bit off to his(?) right and not aligned with the bottom jaw. I have a sensitive sight for straight lines, so the alignment might be so minuscule it doesn't pose a problem.
One more thing; the next closest construct in the foreground with the blur effect feels as though you could really play with the contrast for shadows and highlights a bit more. It has the same one-shade feeling at first glance as the construct in the midground, one that viewers are not encouraged so much to engage with.
Your attention to the finer details is marvelous! I'm entranced from the clouds and trailing smoke alone! And the detailing on the plane, no matter how brief, makes it that much more awesome! The reflection of water in the background could have easily been misguided and pose a distraction, but you nailed it!! Overall, great piece! Be proud of it!
