In the late 60s, the Baxter institute, funded by Tom A. Strauss Jr, the R.U.R. industries and Franklin Reade Jr's company Reade enterprises, organized a four member team of researches to go up and investigate an energy anomaly in upper Earth orbit. Once they arrived at the exact coordinates, the shuttle and it's occupants vanished for exactly five seconds. The shuttle was out of control and it would crash landed in the Nevada desert if it weren't for the timely intervention of on of the US's greatest super powered heroes, Alan Adams, AKA Captain Atom. Investigations unearthed some seriously unbelievable things. The shuttle itself, after it had cooled from reentry, had be revealed to have aged, for lack of a better term. It showed clear signs of age. Rust, fried electronics that were never meant to last as long as they had to then, decomposition of organic and chemical materials. It was almost as if, while in reality a few seconds had passed, the ship had been gone for a hundred years or so. The crew itself..... only one survived, the head researcher. He only managed to survive because the strange properties of whatever place they had been in turned him far too physically malleable to be hurt. He didn't have to eat or drink any more even. The others however..... One researcher was a pile of human shaped ash and bone fragments, while the other was a mound of a rock-like substance that still seemed to move from time to time. The fourth member could be still heard screaming and sobbing. Using infrared devices they managed to locate her in the back of the shuttle. She was completely invisible, and all that that implies. No light could be picked up by her eyes. It all passed through them. She was blind.
The energy anomaly disappeared after a time, but had remained in the minds of scientists for years to come. Just what had happened to the Shuttle "Fantastic" and it's crew.
