The winds were bitter, and the moon was crisp; fresh snow had fallen throughout the early evening, and now with the sun set, nothing moved. Untouched and glittering, each step was a muffled 'poomf'. The cowboy had combed through these woods before, sure that the rumor of a lost mare out here in the wilds were true. His breath frosted his facial hair, and wearily he peered under a long brimmed had. The woods were dark; they held far more mystery and dangerous beings than he cared to know. This entire country was new territory, something untouched and dangerous.
"C'mon..where are you.."
He muttered under his breath, breath hitching at the faint sounds of cricking twigs and distant nature. His trusted gun, half as worn as he was wrapped over his shoulder, primed and ready for any midnight bandits, or still-waking bears.
The moon was high in the sky before he caught a hint of a trail; some broken bushes and freshly ploghed snow. Crouching low, he looked on, attempting to get an idea of where the trail might'n be headed.
He caught her eyes; bright blue, peering with calm intellect behind a group of tree's. It must've been midnight when he softly broke the silence, murmuring and calling to the big girl. The townsfolk had been right; this mare nearly dissappeared within the depths of the tree's- easily.
