This is a Jackal.
It is a type of large, pack-hunting bug thing.
They like to eat people.
They make cicada noises when they're milling about.
And they scream when they attack you.
Jackals are considered pests on many, many worlds because their queens have this bad habit of stowing away on large vessels when in their smaller stages and then cropping up once it lands.

I'm a bit of an amateur entomologist. While I did think termite at first, just from the jaws and the pasty white flesh, I settled on including a mention of 'scorpion simply due to the head and the laterally placed eye. It bears a strong resemblance to the cephalothorax of a scorpion.
