Its always surprising to me how many races in Roleplaying games and Fantasy stories that are always evil. Like, they're intelligent and sentient creatures, but some how their whole race is fundamentally evil down to their very core for some reason. Its always seemed rather boring and dumb to me that its like that.

I agree its a very narrow view of racial characteristics, I know the 3.5 book that dealt with playing as monstrous humanoids states that the alighnment in the manual is the average, not the rule. But yeah it just creates stereotypes.

That book mentions that yeah. However all the other books specifically use the word "Always" for their alignment. Which just kind of makes me scratch my head. As it heavily limits the stories you can tell with those races and characters.

Like with Kobolds. Often they're said to look at Dragons with Awe and Worship. Surely there would be ones that worship Good aligned dragons. That could really easily make interesting stories and story moments. Specially if you're then also willing to play around with and toy with racial prejudice and actions of hate.
