FERRET (O.S.)
Zero!
Judy, Nick and Zero all look to the window. A giraffe and a ferret are looking in from outside the window, the latter clinging to the side of the former's face.
FERRET
Zero! (waves) Hi!
Zero unbolts and opens the window.
ZERO
Hello?
FERRET
See? Told you! (jumps through the window) I told you it was- (looks up at Zero) -wow, you're, like, really tiny for a- (shakes her head) Sorry, sorry, where are my manners -- I'm Ferret- (nods at the window) -and this is Garnet. (tips her hat) We're the Tower Twins.
NICK
(head tilts) Twins?
GARNET
(blushes and looks off to the side) It's actually the Tower Triplets, but Bridget called in sick today.
NICK
Strep throat? (is elbowed by Judy)
FERRET
(nods) What else? (approaches) You're Officer Wilde, right? (shakes his hand) It's an honor to finally meet you. (shakes Judy's hand) You too Officer Hopps -- I didn't forget about you.
GARNET
We're just here to do a little outdoor maintenance, sweeping out the gutters and the like before the rain gets here. So. . . Come on, sis.
FERRET
(dismissive hand wave) Oh come on, that'll take me five minutes tops. (takes out her phone) Seriously, can we get some photos? Because you know Bridget's not going to believe a word of this. (frowns) Unless I'm keeping you from being somewhere important.
Judy and Nick exchange glances, then both look at Zero.
ZERO
I. . . Yeah, it's still early.
FERRET
Okay. So. . . It's true then. You're ZPD now? (smiles) That must be a hoot.
ZERO
Well. . .
Garnet pokes her head inside and sees the orange vest draped over the chair. She frowns, averts her eyes and taps the chair with her head so that the vest slips off and out of view.
ZERO
It's, um. . . Better than my last job.
FERRET
Wow, there's an understatement. (glances over as Garnet bumps the chair)
GARNET
Sorry, don't mind me. (nuzzles Zero, rests her chin on his shoulder, and looks down at Ferret) Can I get a photo?
ACT III
The knob on Zero's door rattles and clicks open. Nick peeks in holding out a credit card.
NICK
Zero? (looks around) Grace? (sighs) Nobody.
OUTSIDE
Nick and Judy walk down the front steps.
FERRET (O.S.)
Were you looking for Zero?
Nick and Judy both look off to the side. Ferret is climbing down the downspout, frowning. They both nod.
JUDY
Have you seen him?
FERRET
Indirectly.
FLASHBACK - ZERO'S APARTMENT
Garnet peeks in through the window as she is passing by and stops at what she sees. She tries to look in from the outside, then pushes the window open halfway with her head.
GARNET
Zero? Hello?
Zero is on the floor under the bed with a pillow clutched over his head. The celebratory bottle is uncorked and lying on the floor next to him.
ZERO
Nngh! Indoor voices. Indoor voices, please.
GARNET
Is everything alright? (looks at the bottle) Did. . . Did you drink all of this?
ZERO
Nngh. . . I can't resell it. . . Can't give it away, can't drink it in public. . . And I REALLY can't take it on the road with me. . . So I gotta' dump it out. (waves his hand) And I will. I will. . . In about. . . Eight to twelve hours. . . Hee-hee -ow! (curls up) Oh, don't make me laugh again. . .
GARNET
That's not good at all Zero. Especially if you're still taking the antitoxin. (shakes her head) They must have told you not to mix those.
ZERO
Eh, whatever, it's not like I. . . (peeks out from under the pillow) How do you know that?
Garnet frowns and looks off to the side.
GARNET
Bridget's taking them. She's not sick, she's. . . (sigh) Detoxing.
Zero buries his face back under the pillow. Garnet frowns and starts to turn away. She stops halfway and looks back down at him.
GARNET
Zero? You know we're all pulling for you, right?
ZERO
Hm? (peeks out) We who?
GARNET
Well. . . All of us. Zootopia. As a whole. I know it doesn't always look that way, but. . . Trust me, we are. (sighs) I mean. . . I don't know what I personally could do, but if you need anything-
ZERO
Thank you. That's. . . That's good to know. . . But, umm. . . Right now, I just need to seriously rethink my life. . . (sigh) And to sleep this off.
GARNET
Well. . . If you're sure. (pause) If you ever want to talk about it, or anything else. . . Zero?
ZERO
(snores)
GARNET
Alrighty then. . . Sleep tight.
