Well it's normal enough for an alchemist or potion brewer to taste an ingredient to make sure it's fresh, right, etc. Maybe she's using her own blood to help in the mixing and that's why she drank some to get the parts better mixed with her blood. Don't eww too much, before you understand. *chews on some plants*
