The orient was some centuries behind in technology, and when the book print was finally introcuded by Ottoman government in 1729 and 1779 century, the old guilds of copists and letter-writers caused riots which were fueled by religion (as usual). So, there were not many printed items in the Middle East until late 19th (!) century.
