One Century Later, WW1
I wanted something fancier for the marking of the centennial of the ending of World War 1. Something more dramatic. But stress, depression, and its bloody cold outside, and that means cold inside (can't afford the heating bill if I kick on the heat).
But I wanted something to mark this date. I would like to eventually color this up as it deserves.
And I know, don't jump me cause I left out the Italians, Belgians, Canadians, Aussies, Kiwis, Russians, Austria-Hungarians, Serbs, Turks and Bulgarians. I'd either have to draw them a lot tinier, or seriously crowd up the page.
Lest we forget!

I remember some very well known song lyrics:
Don't you understand, what I'm trying to say?
Can't you see the fears that I'm feeling today?
If the button is pushed, there's no running away
There'll be no one to save with the world in a grave
Take a look around you, boy, it's bound to scare you, boy
And you tell me over and over and over again my friend
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction...
Very true and I would bet that is the only thing preventing one big huge oriental country from starting one. Although they have been steeling way too much American weapon's secrets just for self-defense. They have also been very aggressive in their encroachment onto international water, and annexing a very small defenseless country perch high in the Himalayas. I'm surprised that the US as done absolutely nothing about those two things... so far... IMO they are now so full of themselves that they might be the spark that starts the next big one. Just hope they wait for another 30 or so years before starting the hostilities cause I will be either very old or death by then...
Sadly it's true, Bering was right. The assassination was just the straw that broke the camel's back. Ever since the 20th Century began, there was much distrust around Europe. For instance Germany got it into their head that the British Empire would invade them and all of Europe (we had no intention of doing that), at the same time we thought that Germany could have invaded us for some reason? In an age of expanding empires everyone thought one was going to take over another, but then the assassination occurred and the rest as they say is history. A rather sad history.
It's a shame that the end of this war will just lead to another after two decades of sheer uncertainty and other negative events such as The Great Depression and the rise of Nazism.
But we still remember and honour those who gave up their lives in what was once known as The Great War regardless. A war which should never have been at all, but sadly it was.
Beautiful piece by the way.

Lest We Forget, indeed!
This was the piece the the Guelph Pipe Band played at 06:00 this morning at the Col. McCrae Museum: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJWMpwvellg
(not the video I took, alas, but the same piece of music)

World War 1 from Rabbi!
The furs look fancy!
So come leave a comment over here!
You are absolutely killer with these military sketches. I'll say it again, one of my favorites of yours.
All I need in my collection is the Adrian helmet, and I'm golden!
But man, so much in love with this piece
Well done as always, sir.

Actually its been proven the stick grenade can be thrown farther than a standard grenade. Only advantage of the British Mills Bomb and the French and US grenades was they could more easily be tossed in smaller areas. Plus the Germans would use one stick grenade as a central point and they'd wire five more grenade heads around the center grenade and use it as a anti-tank/bunker buster.
The Balfour Declaration is the most important piece of information about WWI that clarifies WWII and post WWII.
The Balfour Declaration was a secret treaty between the British government and the Rothschild family. You can check Wikipedia. The British government secretly granted the land of Palestine to the Rothschild family in exchange for the Rothschilds using their influential contacts and politicians in America to coerce America and President Wilson into joining WWI. Mind you, Palestine was at the time owned by the Ottoman Empire and could not be "given away" unless Britain won the war. The Ottoman Empire knew that if they did not support Germany, that they would be torn to pieces by Britain, which eventually happened and created all the modern nation-states you know today like Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, etc... The Rothschild family were and still are the de facto owners of the Bank of England as well as numerous other Central Banks around Europe and had a hand in the 1913 establishment of the Federal Reserve in the USA, our central bank.
WWI was never about Archduke Franz Ferdinand being assassinated, that's just the cover story they teach in high schoool. The real reason WWI happened was to create the state of Israel. British, German, and American blood was spilled so some rich asshats could get their own piece of "holy" desert. Check Wikipedia if you have doubts.

Both my grandfathers, curiously enough, were involved with aviation during WWI.
My father's biological father (who died some years before I was born) was training as an aviator: the only real souvenir we had of him was his flying helmet.
My maternal grandfather, after briefly serving as a wireless operator in the US Navy (there was some problem about his citizenship, as he was apparently still listed as a Swedish national), headed up to Canada to join the RCAF as a mechanic. Unfortunately, his military career was cut short by the Spanish Flu; but he never lost his interest in airplanes, and was an enthusiastic pilot in his later years. One of my cousins probably still has the propellor from the Curtiss 'Jenny' he first soloed in. 7@=e

I regret not taking a photo my mom's father had on the wall, Was him in WW1 as an ambulance driver. The photo was him and his buddy, with their ambulances (Liberty trucks) and the side of the trucks had chalked characters of themselves...that other driver, a Young Walt Disney.
My uncle snagged the photo, never to be seen again.

What do you expect when you had a power hungry madman like Stalin in control? Plus he eradicated his own officer corps during the 36-39 purge. Plus I recall Stalin was still pissed off at the Polish independence of 1921.
Many have said the same thing about Hitler, had he concentrated his effort during the Battle of Britain instead of Launching Barbarossa in 1941.
Who knows what the world would be like today?
