When I created Rym and the lutrai in the 90s (!!!), it was a custom campaign setting I dreamed up for Dungeons and Dragons way back when it was 2nd edition. I never stopped DMing, from 2nd edition going into 3rd and onward, all the way through Pathfinder. Roleplaying was and has always been one of my favorite ways of telling and being told stories, and when I first shared Rym, I was surprised it struck a chord with so many people.
Lately, tabletop RPGs have been experiencing a renaissance. With tools like Roll20, and shows like Critical Role and Adventure Zone moving into online spaces, I've happily seen this passion being enjoyed across a broader and more inclusive base than ever, by both men and women, young and old, from all walks of life. A big part of this resurgence can be credited to D&D 5th Edition, which I've been playing with a group of friends the past year or so. It's a great system that's brought in many new players with its flexibility, versatility and the strong support it's had from WotC. It's easy to pick up and get into, but deep and engaging, and a lot of fun.
So, maybe it's time to update Rym! I've been talking with friends about collaborating on an illustrated resource for 5th edition, with templates and stat blocks for the races and monsters, lists of the items and treasures to be found, maps and information of the various locations, and included stories, plots, and NPCs, and all the related art. I've been a bit quiet because for some time now a lot of the stuff I’ve been producing has been focused on maps, items, and other stuff that doesn’t post so well here on its own, but now I'd like to get your input on this idea! Is it something you'd be interested in? Would you like to see a book or PDF? A Roll20 resource with tokens and things? What would be fun or useful for you? If you have suggestions as a player, storyteller, or creator, I'd like to hear from you.
And thanks for all the support and interest you've already shown all these years. Rym has been a labor of love, and I think 5th Edition might be the perfect way to share it again.

Oh holy stars, I cannot express how excited that makes me. Even as far back as when Rym was a 2nd edition D&D setting, it's been something I've dearly loved and appreciated. It was even formative in my early, nascent years as a fan of anthropomorphic works.
Truly, genuinely, thank you Ollie for making even the first hint at it coming back again.

I'd love a pdf, because, as a European, shipping costs more or less prevents buying any kind of physical item from the US, unfortunately. And I'd like to see a pdf dedicated to the world, without rules. I'm not much of a fan of D&D, whatever edition it is, though I've often toyed with the idea of adapting the RYM setting to other rules, or even create something unique for RYM. Never got around to doing that though...

This has been a dream of mine for a very long time, a physical copy of everything RYM in a single organized location. A book AND a pdf would be optimal, just because you could cover more ground that way, some folks don't mind shelling out the cash for a physical copy because they prefer the feel of a book over the digital, and some prefer the digital for the ability to quick jump to references at an instant. Roll20 resource packs would be neat too. Item sheets you could print off on card stock, custom RYM themed character sheets, 3D printable character miniatures would be neat too. Ahhh! My brain is buzzing with ideas!
I would buy a Rym book in an instant.
I strongly suggest using hardcover and color pages, and offering both book and PDF (perhaps with a bundle discount if you buy both through DriveThruRPG)
I don't have any thoughts about Roll20 packs or the like, since I don't use those. My schedule makes even online gaming more or less impossible, but I still love reading game books.

Yeah, I own some books for RPGs I will likely never get to play, because it's fun to read about the settings. I will guiltily admit to some enjoyment of figuring out how the powers work even though I claim not to like complex rules. (Looking at you, "Exalted".) Currently trying to figure out how the heck "Chuubo's Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine" works; the book is like a train wreck full of shiny things.)
I would certainly be interested in buying some kind of Rym book. And once again, I'd be happy to provide pro writing and editing help, and/or to talk your ears off about my friends' Rym campaign.
Suggestions:
-Although 5th Edition is popular, it's far from the only system out there. You might want to look at Pathfinder (either the current edition or the upcoming 2nd), or something different. I'm partial to the freeware, story-focused Fate system these days and it has a community of players and writers. Open Legend and Dungeon World (Apocalypse system) look interesting, in each case for putting an emphasis on storytelling. There are even system-agnostic RPG books out there, and depending on how much you like doing the numbers, that route might mean less work and hassle for you.
-Locations, plots and NPCs are far more interesting to me than stat blocks. In my group's browsing of the original Rym site there were a lot of places we were left still wanting to know about. Filling in the gaps with adventure seeds and other things to interact with would be more interesting than telling me how much damage Nigh's weapons do ("too much").
-As for Roll20 resources, I would like them but they're a lower priority than having more setting material. Your art would make for wonderful maps and character illustrations, though.
In any case, I hope to see you continue to move forward with the project, with updates of whatever material or news you're comfortable with sharing!

I do second and third and fourth this:

Content over stats any day of the week and even the weekend. ;)

I would love to see more info on the world of Rym.. and were there a book I would sure buy it.. As a worldbuilder DM since AD&D, I both love learning of other worlds and lending support if within my reach.. It is a labor or love and any extra love sure goes a long way.. ^.^
I have been a huge fan of Rym for a very long time.
I hosted a 3rd edition game using the Rym rules, then even adapted it to a Cyberpunk Shadowrun (4e) game set in the same universe.
I know it's probably a long shot, but if you want any assistance, I'll do what ever I can to assist in bringing Rym back.

All the yes.
I remember the Rym website, it was one of the MAJOR influences on me when I was first discovering Furry. The style is something unforgettable. While the crosslinked entries were useful, gods know what bits I missed. Me, I love a good book that's fluff-heavy and rules-light (I've never been part of a tabletop campaign that really got off the ground.)
Long as it's not like, one of those Kickstarters that only "pays out" to the early investors and everyone else is SOL, I'll be there.

I found Rym when I was maybe 11 or 12 and was obsessed I would draw fan art I never posted at school all the time and it's heavily influenced my love of this kind of genre (not sure what to call it but like runic water life type stuff?).
Would love to see an updated iteration!
