Here are some ears and a tail I wore for halloween this year! These were a very experimental project but I'm proud of how they turned out! I had already created the tail as an experiment but as Halloween came around and I had nothing to wear to school (they don't allow masks so I couldn't just show up in my fursuit head) so I created the ears to go with it.
Since these were experimental I tried a couple ideas with these that I hadn't done before. For the tail my goal was to make it wag realistically, I ended up making it a bit to small but it wasn't important to me since I really just needed a quick tail that I could experiment with. To make it wag I started by making a weight to put at the end of it, this causes the movement of a tail to be more sensitive to how you move, making it swing a bit better when you walk. However, a weight alone won't make the tail wag realistically, so after a bit of stuffing and re stuffing I figured out a way to make a sort of fake spine for the tail that let it wag. After all that work the tail still doesn't wag perfectly, but it was a successful experiment in helping me figure out a more realistic way to make the tail wag.
I also experimented with painting fur. While I was making the ears I decided that attempting to paint the fur a little would make them look a lot nicer and more realistic. I don't have an airbrush so instead I used a paintbrush and some acrylic paint. Usually putting acrylic paint on fur is a bad idea so I tried watering down the paint which worked really well. I found that the best way to apply paint this way is to start painting as close to the base of the fur as you can, then use a little water to spread the paint throughout the fur. After painting the edges and the inside of the ears I decided to paint the end of the tail a little too. I had a lot of fun trying to paint fur for the first time. I think it turned out ok for a first try!
I've been thinking about someday doing something like these for commission. Let me know if you think that would be a good idea or not.
Also thanks to anyone who read all the way through that xD
