I don't typically attempt any fancy things with my photos. This photo started off really dark, though there was enough light on the suiter for me to consider playing with a bunch of Lightroom settings I generally don't mess with (or some that I use very sparingly). Turns out the shot, as it was, was in prime condition to take advantage of luminosity sliders to pop out the suit while keeping the rest of the background dark.
That was the first draft. After sharing that on Twitter, a friend of mine suggested I should try radically darkening the background even further. Since I had already exhausted the sliders I had available, I had to do the rest by hand with a paintbrush. This is more or less the result of that attempt. He also suggested I find a way to gradient the shadow around the edges and lighten it up towards the subject, but I don't have those tools nor do I have those sorts of skills or disciplines.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this shot.
