This year a lot of friends and acquaintances from "the biz" passed on. Stan Lee falls into the acquaintance category for me, as I would sometimes see him at cartoon functions and talk with him. He was always very charming and good humored.
In 2007 our local cartoon club gave him a dinner, and I drew this drawing for him. I chose the elements carefully knowing what I knew about him. He loved it.

He lived to be 95, didn't appear to suffer from dementia or anything, and he died with the knowledge that the company he helped create is now a worldwide phenomenon that is at the forefront of the pop culture, not to mention a multi-billion-dollar juggernaut. He'll also likely be celebrated for decades to come. I'm not really sure how much there is to mourn about that.
