He's about...hm...five years old now, I believe. I love the little buttface. <3
Taken sometime last year, or maybe back in '07 - can't remember exactly.

These guys don't smell at all, they really only shed when spooked (a small tuft of expelled fluff in your hands is actually kinda interesting, haha..), and the running/chewing is fine depending on what you get. If you get a Silent Spinner wheel, largest size available, that takes care of the loud running...unless your chin is a fatty-butt like Spazz. He runs all the time and gets minimal snacks, yet he breaks wheels after awhile. Anyway, a NORMAL chin would be just fine in one of those; anything else I've tried snapped after a month or two cause he was super energetic as a little fella. He still loves to run, just not quite as crazily. Edible houses are a good idea as long as they're chinchilla-safe (certain woods can cause severe harm or death), and I got him a little hammock last year that he absolutely loves. They're very easy to care for - clean the cage out once a month, a dust bath 1-2 times a week, and 1-2 tbs of food every night (dump the old food out each time). It also helps to keep the food in the fridge or freezer - keeps it fresh longer, and they don't mind the cold. :3
idk. i think id be so scared that id hate it. i had three hamsters once and they were awful. you sure do know how to care for one though(a chinchilla i mean, not a hamster, although im sure would have no problem with those things either). i commend you.
ive got my heart set on a finch or two and a cat though. gonna concentrate on begging my dad for one of those. ><

I've had two hamsters... One was a sweetheart that keeled over one day (had him for a year, so it was likely old age since they don't live long anyway), and the other was a biatch. D<
Some people complain of their chinchillas biting, but I swear 95% of the time it's how they're raised... Some of them might just be naturally grumpy for life, but with proper socialization (and if you get 'em as babies - that's the best thing to do), even most of the biters can turn soft and loveable. Spazz is the only chin I've ever owned, but I've read up on them a lot and also learned a bit from my mom, as she used to own one herself at some point before I came into the world. :P
Finches, omg... What kind? We used to have a pair of Gouldian finches... I remember the male had a red face and would always wake up at 4-5am and do his mating dance. It was hilarious... He'd hop up and down on the topmost perch and tweet his little heart out. Their first two babies never hatched, but the third did and was a little sweetie. cx

aw, at least youve had nice hamsters. ish. i think what happened was we made the mistake of getting three at once. a dwarf, a bear hamster, and something else. the bigger ones killed the dwarf, and the other two fought a lot. one ended up with no eyes. and the other with only one. you have no idea how glad i was when all of them died. which is horrible. but seriously.
i want to pet your chinchilla. and yeah, i think getting any animal as a baby is a good idea. but i feel badly for adults as well! for instance, at an animal shelter. ill probably end up getting kittens and adult cats alike whenever i can manage it.
im not sure what kind. but i want them to get a male and female, and i want them to have babies. i really like the more expensive ones, but i cant afford that. i also liek the plain brown ones. they remind me of sparrows. do you kno where any sparrow birds are sold? if they are at all? i see them everywhere...they should really be sold somewhere.
i feel so 'aww' about you baby birdie. <333

Oh gawd, that's horrible... I can imagine being happy about the hamsters passing on, I understand where you're coming from...ugh. D8
Rescuing adult pets is indeed a wonderful thing... I admire people who do that! <3
As for the sparrows, I'm not too sure... I saw something on Google called a house sparrow; they're legal as pets, but I have no idea how you would go about getting one. :c
