If you want to use OC for color, Try using one layer as SUBTRACTION to put the first colors over the drawing. Is easy that way.

Open canvas is a little tedious for color and work, You should try Easy paint tool SAI( http://www.systemax.jp/en/sai/ ). Its more practical and simple for use. I even can send you a cracked version if you don't want to pay for it after the 30 days trial. XD

But anyway you color here is fine, it really looks great especially the fur . Don´t be hard with yourself, After all color is simple after you get use to it. so, practice with the program you choose and you will see that soon color will be a piece of cake(｀・ω・´).
