Her name is a link to the book of the same name.
She is homunculus. Mandragora root replaces the human heart. But one day it will be transformed and Alraune will become a full-fledged human. It was created in the post-apocalyptic world. She was supposed to be part of a power generator.Its creator was going to sell it to a New Paris (one of the last civilized cities) in exchange for a place in the city. But the alchemist was attacked by slavers. Alchemist was killed. Alraune was kidnapped. (Alraune then was not activated. She could not protect herself. She lay like a lifeless doll.)
Another character, Heinrich Stiglitz (ex soldier ) buys Alraune on a traveling slavers market. Then he did not know that he saved not a human but a homunculus.
