Folks this is not going to be easy for me but I'm going to try.
Stan Lee was one of my heroes..I loved Marvel Comics as a kid Not to mention He was one of the influences when it came to me creating my characters..And to hear that he died on Monday..It was like someone sucker punched me...HARD.
Stan worked in comics since he was a teen.Working for Timely Comics helping Jack Kirby and Joe Simon with some of their stories for The Human Torch ,The Sub-Mariner and Captain America .Then when WWII came about he joined the war effort Writing Scripts for their Film Division and such and when he came back after the war.. He returned to comics. Writing for Monster and romance comics again for Timely Comics.(Now being called Atlas Comics.)During the sixties Stan wanted to get out of comics But his publisher came to him telling him that Superheroes are making a comeback over at National Comics(D.C. Comics if you want to be technical.)They had a comic about a group of super heroes called The Justice League of America And asked Stan if he can create a Superhero group for them....Even though he wanted to get out of Comics..Stan agreed. But Stan decided if he was going to do this..He was going to do this his way..Worse Case He'd get fired and he was wanting to quit anyway..So..Teaming up with Jack Kirby....They created The Fantastic Four The first Family of Superheroes and by doing so ushered in The Birth of Marvel Comics and the rest is history.....Other Superheroes were to follow.... Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, Black Panther, Daredevil, Doctor Strange,Silver Surfer and Ant-Man He even with help from Jack Kirby revived Captain America and The Sub Mariner to the modern day. In the seventies....He became Publisher for Marvel Comics and became the company's voice Not to mention he challenged the restrictions of the Comics Code Authority, indirectly leading to changes in its policies. In The Eighties he pursued development of Marvel properties in other media, with mixed results. He Retired in the Nineties but he remained a public figurehead for the company, and frequently made cameo appearances in movies based on Marvel characters, on which he received an honorary "executive producer" credit. Meanwhile, he continued independent creative ventures into his 90s, in fact he stayed in comics in some way pretty much up to the day he died.
To me Stan Lee was Up there with Walt Disney as an icon and like Walt he was one of my inspirations
Thank You Stan.We won't forget the legacy you left us.We're going to miss you.
Nuff'Said.
