I'm good at literally only 1 thing when it comes to art and that's inking.... which basically means I have the amazing ability not to give a shit and slowly develop carpel-tunnel. Anyway, here's an example of what I can do with a pen, I guess. This is part of a much larger illustration I did for class. The assignment was movie posters, and this was for the film The Deer Hunter. I'm currently in sophomore year at art school... maybe if I'm lucky I can go professional when I graduate. Who knows...

Aww, thank you! I actually find doing it very therapeutic. You just sorta get into the rhythm of things after a bit. I have some other, more detailed pieces in the works currently - hmu if you'd like to see them or talk technique or w/e. I'm a massive nerd about inking and love discussing it, lol
Oh gosh thats so sweet! When I have some extra time I definitely will. I will say ive gotten into scratchboard art which has a similar patience threshold as this, never thought I would enjoy it but its super fun!
Do you have an idea of how the drawing will turn out when you start or do you just start going for it??

(sorry for the super late response - finals, gah)
Scratchboard seems incredibly neat, and I really, really want to get into it when I get the chance. Clayboard as well, which actually seems a bit closer to what I do.
When I ink stuff, I have my sketch in pencil underneath, but it's really just linework. Pencil shading kinda messes with me when I ink, and I find that I can't focus on details as easily as without it. Some of my drawings are just me jumping right into it and inking 'freehand', so to speak - using only the sketch and inventing the shading and textures as I go. Other times I'll do a small value sketch on another piece of paper, and keep it next to me to make sure my shading is working out alright. that's proooobably the more 'professional' method, but aaa I'm still a student and can do dumb things!
