(UPDATE!!!) general crisis (A.T.E update)
Okay so A.T.E stands for A Tummyultuous Evening, which is brilliant. This is an update-ish thing for that.
I've just finished my huge busy month today, and boy am I glad to be free. However, I have not drawn anything in so long that I have just about forgotten HOW to draw, and so I'm having a style crisis, getting impatient and giving up with any attempts, and generally loathing the very idea of drawing. I did this as a practice, but I mean... I can't bring myself to like it.
Working on A.T.E was a pain as it was, and for the effort I put in, the result wasn't really worth it. Each drawing took 6 hours minimum. Typically 8 or 9. I'm really slow at art, and since my good tablet broke and I've been using a shitty Huion the size of my hand, I've been even slower and it's been even harder. So, frankly, A.T.E is just time consuming and difficult to bring forth. The sketches were fun to do. Everything else... hasn't been. And now that I'm out of practice, I can only seeing myself hating it more.
Which is why I want to compromise somehow. I want to be able to share my miniseries thing, but I don't want to put myself through hell to do it. I will take thoughts on this. Here are some of my own thoughts:
1. I could post sketches, and line and color every fifth or so
2. I could color under my sketches and forget lining
3. I could attempt to rework them to be more simplified
Really sorry about this, guys! I just need to put my wellbeing first. :(
To compensate, and to help me practice and help me grow confidence again in my art, I will draw bust shots for the first five who comment on this post WITH A RELEVANT COMMENT. (if you come and just post a link to your OC or fursona, I won't give you my time of day) Just link me a ref or equivalent after your comment. Thank you. <3 <3
EDIT: to clarify, a relevant comment means a comment regarding A.T.E in some respect...

Hi! I can totally empathize with your feeling of not approaching art/creation for a period of time, then struggling when it’s time to get back up to speed. I feel like I either have to push through areas of roadblocks when I’m getting back to writing, or I struggle with getting things to the level I want then to reach. From my understanding this is also a period of time when it’s easy to be judgmental of yourself, so I wouldn’t be too hard on yourself about any struggles. It happens to everyone.
As far as ATE goes, I’m very impressed at your ability to stick with it. I’ve never done such a long series, my longest is at 6 installments, but you’re already at 19 and you’re still working, and IMO your work hasn’t dipped in quality at all! And I mean that only positively, I’m speaking from my own experience where I feel some of my work struggles in extended stories, your ability to keep your work consistent is admirable.

You should do what you feel comfortable with. If putting less on your plate is something that will help you, you should absoultely do that. I don’t think you should rework your style if it’s working for you, but lineart and sketches might make your workload lighter, that might help you out.
I am in total awe of people who can manage to keep up comic art... I'll do my best to get over my block as soon as possible, because I absolutely am in an overly judgmental phase at the moment. Practice makes perfect, after all... or, at least, thereabouts.
Thank you so much for your feedback, it really means a lot. Certainly extended writing would be hard to keep up with. Even critically acclaimed authors and screen writers seem to lose merit with their sequels. I definitely can see that and the pain of it. Writing can be demanding on that front- it requires so much forethought. To be honest, the whole of ATE (including every sketch not posted) could be written in one or two short stories if I put my mind to it. That's part of what makes it frustrating when each drawing takes eight hours, but I could have the whole written story out in probably sixteen.
I'll keep experimenting with what the best method is for me and hopefully settle on what really is comfortable through some trial and error. Thanks a million. :)
If you want me to draw a bust of a character for you, please do just shoot me a link. Or note me a description if you don't have any images. I'm really happy to do a solid for a solid. c:

Glad I could help! If you're OK with it, my character is here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/22467294/
i'm unsure of asking you for any sort of thing but I do want to say that you should maybe just sketch or whatever. I don't know the intimate details about your coloring ability but if it doesn't take you too much time in comparison to the other step, then I'd say just do it that way, since coloring can still look good with sketches
mm, well, if you're sure about that, you could do up this guy any way you like https://www.furaffinity.net/view/10438904/

A.T.E. is a delightful tale, and I would like to see the rest of it, but you can't let your art become a chore. That way lies burnout.
If doing the sketches was fun, then, by all means, post the sketches! Share the FUN with us.
It sounds like you have enough sketched-out installments that you can use THEM to experiment, too. You don't have to pick between the options you listed above; just start posting and playing around with different techniques.
Deliberate emphasis on "PLAYING." Post raw sketches, or slightly cleaned-up ones; post colored sketches; try different approaches to linework to streamline the process. Experiment, and have fun with it!
(You should still have my refs if you would like to include me amongst the busts. ^/\^)

Well, first per your instructions (and frankly per common courtesy) let me see if I can help.... I mean, I come as someone who isn't really familiar with working with a tablet, (The second option's kind of confusing me.) Somehow I think the first option might lead to more work than actual relieve. I would opt for the third option. It sounds like if you can rework the sketches and make them easier to complete, the series overall might be easier to complete (Maybe use less furniture? Or include fewer characters in each picture? Maybe use voice bubbles while keeping the focus on the dragon?) As I said, I have limited art experience, though I hope this helps somewhat.
Ah, right! In relation to the second option, I have all my sketches drawn with a traditional paper and pencil, but can scan them onto my computer, upload them to a program, and set them as layers. I can then color under the layers by setting those layers to a 'multiply' setting. This keeps the original pencil lines, while adding clean digital color. If you aren't familiar with tablets that may not have cleared things up at all, though.
I agree that the first option is not ideal. As for the third, I am quite interested in reworking, and hope to come up with easier methods there. And yes, now that you mention it... removing some furniture/background 'details' (let's face it, I have never done actual detail) could make my life easier. That actually has given me an idea on how I could rework it, which is fantastic. Thank you! ^^
Shoot me a link if you want a character bust!

Oooooh I actually use a similar method, except the sketching is still done on my iPad and I transfer it to my computer where I redraw the lines for precision and use the fill tool for colors ^^ (....yeah, there's a reason I don't do many complex pieces ^^") It sort of makes more sense now though.
Well I'm glad I could help ^^
And if you have the time... *searches through gallery* well, I guess since it's a bust, let's go with my main character: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/18665537/ (though it's slightly outdated, the shadow collar is now bright yellow), and I have other pictures if necessary ^^

By the way, a while back you had some issues with a font crash.
I can't recall if I suggested this at the time, but if you want a good source for comic lettering fonts from a professional comics letterer, check out http://blambot.com/.
A lot of his fonts are freeware.
