Malice/Kijivu has a bit of a tattered past. Being cursed after losing a bet to a demon, he was left with half a face - punishment enough? No. Malice had to steal souls and give them to his ''Boss''. If he was late, or couldn't do it, his sentence would be extended and punishment was usually being beaten half to death and ditched in a cold, dark place - usually with more thugs and criminals.
When he met Tumaini, the demon started causing accidents and nasty things to the pair of them. Malice had enough, and stood up to his demon, challenging him to a fight. Malice lost, but didn't back down when his mate was in danger, so kept fighting. The demon granted him his life back, as the lion showed he would risk himself for the heart of his beloved.
His face healed, but left a reminder of his past with a large scar over his right eye. His flesh stayed the same colour. But his eye colour changed into a cool electric blue instead of the cursed bright crimson.
Only sometimes when angry or upset, his eyes will change back to red, but this is rare.
