L'armée ne l'intéressant pas, car trop stricte, il décida de prendre un travail au pif. Ainsi, il se retrouva forgeron, au près d'un dragon dragon mâle qui lui apprit son métier. Ce dragon était de très bon conseil pour Cobalt. Quand le novice avait un problème, il était là pour aider son élève.
