XD well many people out there tend to just mash up animals on attempts to be unique or get attention. I just tried. the best to make him look nice as well as put a little of myself into it. make it for me and not to get noticed, ya know?

and actually drake when I started out was actually just a werewolf. then I changed him into a hybrid. the back story about the change was that he was experimented on and it turned him into the half and half version ( previous hybrid version that was more reptile dominant) then after a while, I felt he needed another change because he was getting a little too much into the wrong direction in my mind ( drama as well as my growing up) then he just kind of shifted into an older, current version I have today. most all his changes had to do with stages in my life.

I want to straddle those shoulders and say "giddy up horsey!"

Well, it's moreso that I'm kind of here recently. Like, I moved over from Tumblr, because it banned nsfw and I wasn't really down with that.

Ppf, for context, roleplaying in the comments was seen as pretty weird there. Now it's like, 50-60% of these.

eh ya. unfortunately there's a lot of that sort of thing around this web page. most of the time it's just harmless little actions.
but sometimes you'll get blatantly stupid comments like the feralwings guy one, where it's just completely unacceptable.
though to them it's perfectly normal.
there's a lot of people around these parts that tend to have lost touch with reality or have no social skills whatsoever.
you kind of deal with things on a case by case basis if you enjoy posting art.

So far I have like, no following and have been mostly reposting old stuff. So I don't really have a fanbase to be harassed by.

sudden advances aren't "normal". you do that sort of thing anywhere to someone, you'll probably get your teeth knocked out.
it's not just being "eeeh" it's actually having some sort of common decency and not being a complete idiot.
so I can very much blame the guy. there's no excuse out there for that kind of behavior with a stranger. and it's people who give it a pass or just say "well that's normal" are the ones that encourage others to continue that sort of crap because they know there are no repercussions or consequences.
so no, it's not normal behavior.
you talk to others like you are talking to someone face to face. you don't act like some creepy at all times simply because they are safe behind a screen

Yikes, yeah, I can tell. Sounds like a lot of frustration with all this, and while I wish I could help and had something more connected to say, I just haven't been here long enough to see it. Closest I saw was on a post on my old site where someone acted like a more, you know, horror themed creep for no reason, and got told off for it. Similar concept, though a bit different.

So like, cynical 15 year-er to bright eyed, bushy tailed (Ha) community youngster over here- you have any words of advice?

unfortunately ya, I no longer do anything furry community things that are in person. I just stick to the Art now because I am so fed up with how people act in it.
and don't worry, you don't have to be sorry for not having said more. there's no reason for you to. and if you never see that sort of stuff then more power to you.

advice? well. I guess for the most part I think you should just kind of take things with a grain of salt. no matter who it is. even with me, you don't know who I am and you don't know if I'm telling the truth or just over reacting etc. people tend to say many many different kinds of things in this community, so many that it's hard to distinguish what's real or not. for the most part I think you should just enjoy yourself but just be weary. don't simply accept everything told to you or shown to you because it can very easily bite you in the butt. most importantly, look after yourself. don't try to make everyone else happy because when you do that, you try to please others at your own expense and you tend to be the one who becomes unhappy.

Mmm, bad experience, huh? And yeah, hopefully it'll be alright, but, who knows.

That's a very grounded response, nice to see you including yourself in that. I feel like that's likely the same in any community, but good advice when one is odd enough that it makes you wonder if it'll function the same way.
