I was trying to quantify what it was that drew me so intensely to this picture, and I think the answer is "texture". You do a very good job of using fine details to convey not just the look of something, but also to give an impression of physical touch, which very much makes the piece come alive, as it were. Speaking of fine details, those whiskers are quite well done, what with the varied coloring and all.
