During their travels the outcastes came across a pride affiliated with Warlord Garaar's army which led to several skirmishes between the lions and hyenas, however the pride was a small one and suffering under an abusive leader. And upon learning this Rwanda decided on challenging the alpha of the pride to a duel, and after a hard fought battle she won and thus according to the traditions of the lions won leadership of the pride. The lionesses were reluctant to accept the rule of an hyena matriarch initially but after seeing the Outcastes count a number of different species among their ranks and being promised protection joined the Outcastes caravan.

The lionesses, while still weakened and malnourished, were helpful to the outcastes with their knowledge of the terrain and even helped defend the camp on a couple of occasions despite still not havign recovered their full strength yet. However since lions and hyenas don't usually get along some of the pride were talking of running off or revolt, but upon finding out Rwanda promised them they were free to leave if they happened to find a suitable location for the pride to settle in. It wasn't long after that they finally found such a place where a pride had already settled, so the outcastes camped nearby while the lionesses made contact with the local pride and see if they could join the locals. Most of the lionesses decided to settle except for Subira and Sarafina who still felt endebted to the hyenas so they joined as Rwanda's personal guards and consorts still seeing the matriarch as their pride leader.

They have been valuable to the Outcastes for making contact and trading with the still free lion settlements who would have otherwise turned down the hyenas, helping the hyenas to gain influence and territory as they chase down their target, Warlord Garaar, across the wasteland.
